I want to make sure I help give you guys realistic expectations with this (or any) product. This isn’t a concealer. It’s not a full-coverage foundation for the body. It’s not going to hide up your bullet holes and stab wounds. What it will do, is enhance your own skin to be a beautiful glowing version of itself, as if you were wearing sheer pantyhose. I’ve seen it referred to as “liquid gold” and that’s a very accurate description. It will give you beachy glow — no Snookie. In photos, the light reflecting particles will help hide some of your own minor and subtle imperfections. I doubt this is meant to be used as your normal every day lotion — but it’s perfect for those times you’re hardly dressed (or not dressed at all). It takes about a few minutes to fully dry, and even then it may very slightly rub off on your clothing. But again, this is for those times you’re either hardly dressed or not dressed at all. The tagline on the back clearly states “Look great in your birthday suit!”

The packaging ensures that you get every single bit out so none of its wasted — and I love that! Bethany sent me the color “Dark”, which matched my skin perfectly. I’ve been applying this stuff to my arms and chest, and any other area that I know will be exposed. This lotion will give you very sheer to lightweight coverage, and instead of thinking of it as full-on body makeup, you should consider it a gorgeous veil that will take your dull lifeless skin to a glowing golden edge. Despite all of the cool things about it, it’s actually moisturizing! My arms and chest area are soft and smooth and hydrated. It’s not streaky or messy at all and it really soaks into the skin well. It has a very, very light citrus scent from the natural ingredients that I really like.

I think this stuff would be faaaabulous for summer, or for anyone lucky enough to not be living in 40 degree temperatures right now lol. It’s also beautiful for photos, photoshoots, a night out, sexy nights with your significant other *ahem*…seriously! Imagine laying across the bed in a candlelit room, with your skin glowing — your S/O won’t be able to keep his or her hands off of you! Girl…

Overall, I’m loving this stuff so far. I would say it’s expensive, but I’ve come to grips with paying more money for stuff with better ingredients — but that’s just me. And honestly with PRTTY Peaushun, you’re paying for the product here — not the packaging. I really wish I had it to test out during the blazing hot summer months when super short skirts were a must. It’s becoming “scarves & boots” season in the DC area so I can’t really strut my stuff right about now, but seeing as how this stuff has a shelf life of 8 months or so, I’ll be able to really use it after these freezing cold months pass us by. I haven’t been able to use it long enough to speak about it’s “lifting” and “firming” capabilities, which is why I can only rate it a B+ so far..

Here is the product tested on real women (photos included) to give you even more of an idea of how this stuff looks on other skin tones. Sorry, but I wasn’t about to strip down for ya’ll LOL! Check out the blog too

Hello, gorgeous! I have another body butter review for you I was sent a huge tub of Habibi Sugar Cane Body Balm to review, and I felt this would be a good time to give you my thoughts on it seeing as how I’m searching for that one moisturizing product to alleviate my skin issues during the cold winter months ahead.

Habibi Bath & Body is a company specializing in organic bath and body solutions for man, woman and child. They have a really long list of lush organic products that can be applied to your body from head to toe. The body balms are priced at $24.99 for 4oz, and $49.99 for 8oz. All Habibi products carry a shelf-life of 6-9 months.

Drench your skin in this healing blend of ultra-rich butters and essential oils. This unique formula contains six natural moisturizers, including Shea and Coconut butter. They are combined with Honey and a special blend of essential oils, to bring you one of the most indulgent body creams ever. Just a small amount will literally cause your skin to glow; regular use of this balm will actually improve the look and feel of your skin.

INGREDIENTS: Shea butter, coconut butter, coconut oil, olive oil, grapeseed oil, honey, rosewater, essential oils of Lavender, Chamomile, Evening Primrose, Cedarwood, Vitamin.

I love the idea of organic products because it makes me feel like I’m doing something great for my finicky skin. The item I received, the Sugar Cane Body Balm arrived and I immediately opened it…and I was surprised to see a solid product in the tub. However, it is a “balm” so it arrives hardened like a lip balm. No false advertising here, folks. The texture at first was solid, and I had to use the back of my fingernail to scrape it up. That kinda threw me off, but when I started warming it up in my hands it softened up immediately and melted into my skin beautifully. I dropped a tiny piece of it onto the back of my hand and it melted seconds later like butter on a biscuit. Before I even touched it, I was pleasantly knocked out by the super strong sweetened lemon scent (I happen to LOVE lemon-scented stuff). The Sugar Cane scent literally smells like a sugary-sweet lemon tart — not headache-inducing sweet..but I swear it smells like a solid lemonade bar. I can’t really explain it. I just know I love it, it’s laced with all kinds of fabulous butters and oils.

PROS

Moisturizing as heck!

Strong, invigorating scent (comes in a wide variety of scents)

Organic and I love how it looks homemade

Soothing and great for relaxation

Protects the skin from harsh weather

A little goes a long way

Can be used in your hair

CONS

Pricey, but worth every penny! (read my edits below)

OVERALL

I really do love this stuff so far. I took a metal spoon handle and stirred the product up just to get it pliable, and I started noticing some very awesome things about this butter. The raw ingredients start to surface and react to the touch, some physical separation is noticed, it feels wonderfully homemade. The texture is something I really cannot describe because there are so many elements to it. It’s soft, feels like whipped butter, fragrant, loaded with moisture and does wonderful things to dry skin — very wonderful things! I have been using this every night for a week right before bed, massaging it deep into my skin and unable to stop touching myself. The tart lemon scent is so invigorating, and I feel like it just awakens my senses. This has been my personal therapeutic “me-time” for the past week and I absolutely love it. A little goes a long way, which I love because it’ll last longer. Once it soaks into your skin, the scent calms down a lot. You can still smell it, but it’s a much softer scent than straight from the tub.

This would be great for your significant other to rub you down with after a long day. It sinks into the skin leaving a beautiful subtle sheen that isn’t greasy, and I bet you won’t be able to stop touching your skin after it’s applied. The Habibi Body Balms come in a ton of different scents, so everyone is bound to find something that appeals to their taste. Like most organic products it’s expensive, but for some people the outcome may outweigh the price of the product. It states that with continued use, it improves the look and feel of your skin — and while I haven’t been using it long enough to notice any major differences, I am seeing subtle ones. I can definitely say that it’s everything I’d want in an organic body balm. It’s pretty fabulous stuff I’m excited to try other items from this line.

*Edit 10.4.10: I’ve been using this product for several weeks now and I am hands down amazed by this awesome product. I’ve gotten better with learning how to use it, and how to treat it and it’s SO wonderful to my skin. This is hands down one of the best products I’ve ever used for my skin. It’s a balm — therefore, you don’t scoop it into your hands, you rub it and it melts into your fingers like a lip balm to your lips, moisturizing and softening whatever part of the skin you apply it. You can literally rub this stuff and it doesn’t really accumulate onto your fingers like a loose fluffy butter or cream, and that’s what makes this stuff incredibly special. The scent is so long-lasting and beautiful, I promise this is worth every penny!

RATING

The cold months are approaching, and I dunno about you...but I tend to stock up on creamy feel good moisturizers that will keep me from looking like Ashy Larry. I have very dry skin so don't give me the side-eye if you come into my house and see a trillion bottles of lotion, tubs of creams, etc. I gotta do what I gotta do lol. I'm always looking to try new things, so recently on Hautelook there was a great sale on Yes to Carrots. I've heard of the brand before but never tried it. I bought a tub of their Delicious Body Butter and the Smooth Over Body Spa (which I'll review later, I still haven't opened that one yet).

The cold months are approaching, and I dunno about you…but I tend to stock up on creamy feel good moisturizers that will keep me from looking like Ashy Larry. I have very dry skin so don’t give me the side-eye if you come into my house and see a trillion bottles of lotion, tubs of creams, etc. I gotta do what I gotta do lol. See how much it spreads?

PROS

Moisturizing

Formula is thinner, so it allows for lesser use of product

Creamy and lightweight

Non-greasy

Smells great

Fast absorbing

Long lasting – 4 hours after application, my skin is still soft and hydrated

CONS

Some may be put off by the thinner formula, and the fact it doesn’t exactly smell like carrots (yea, I’m really reaching here)

OVERALL

The formula is very silky and smooth, but it’s kinda thin and wet at the same time. It’s not as thick as I’d expect it to be, because when I think of “body butter” I think extra thick and creamy. This almost has a bottled lotion consistency. Some of you may prefer a thicker or heavier “butter”, and some of you may not mind how thin this stuff is. I guess I’m in the middle. However, there is one great thing about this being a thinner product, and that’s the fact you won’t use as much. It spreads a lot, so just dipping my finger in will give me enough product for both arms. Another dip will be enough for my chest and boobies (yes, I lotion my boobs lol!). I use a tiny bit more for my legs and feet because those are obviously larger areas to cover. I find the product to be very nourishing after a hot steamy shower, when your pores are open and thirsty for moisture. It’s not greasy at all, and I like that it keeps my skin soft and supple without that slippery feel afterward.

I really like this stuff, and while I think it’s nice I don’t exactly see what makes this stuff entirely unique at the same time. For what it promises, I noticed delivery. Hours after application, my skin is still nice and soft to the touch. I did a scratch test a few hours after I applied and there wasn’t an ashy line at all. Yea, that’s how I test lotions and body butters If I see an ashy line, it’s a wrap.

As for the scent, I really cannot describe it. It doesn’t smell like carrots at all, despite the name. It smells good to me, like a mixture of fragrant earthy goodness…I dunno. I’d recommend people with dry skin trying this stuff out, it may work great for you — it may not. It de-ashifies me quiet nicely so I’ll keep using it

RATING

Alright, kids…the day has finally come for me to give a full and thorough review of the Clarisonic Plus ($225). I’ve been using this tool since January of this year, and I have many things to say about it *cracks knuckles*, so here we go…

I purchased the Clarisonic Plus this past January and have been using it every day since — well, I may have gone a day or two without using it (lazy hungover weekends), but for the most part it’s in my every day routine.

I can only do this review based on my own personal experience. So let’s first go over what the Clarisonic Plus claims to do and what it comes with…

Sonic Skin Cleansing improves the appearance of skin tone and reduces the appearance of pore size

Clarisonic developed the sonic technology proven to gently yet effectively loosen dirt and oil to clear your pores. The Sonic Skin Cleansing System uses a patented sonic frequency of more than 300 movements per second to clean, soften and smooth your skin. In just 60 seconds a day, the micro-massage action cleans more than twice as effectively as manual cleansing.

Clarisonic Sonic Cleansing Benefits

Removes 6x more makeup than manual cleansing

Leaves skin feeling and looking smoother

Cleanses so well that products absorb better

Gentle enough for twice daily use

Helps reduce oily areas, dry skin patches and blemishes

Helps reduce the appearance of visible pores

Kit includes:

Cordless Clarisonic PLUS

Universal Charging Cradle (100v-240v AC; 50/60 Hz)

Sensitive Brush Head

Body Brush Head

1 oz. trial sizes of Refreshing Gel Cleanser, Gentle Hydro Cleanser and Nourishing Care Cleanser

2 oz. trial size Refining Skin Polish

IS THAT CLAIM TRUE?

For me, it absolutely is. My skin has never been this clean. I no longer have dry patchy areas in the crevices of my nose. My skin glows and it’s very smooth. Not to mention, my pores are tight as crap (which is awesome) — they used to be wide open like “HAAY JUMP IN!”. I never had terrible skin, but I never had perfect skin either. I did not expect this product to give me perfect skin, but it damn sure gave me a platform to achieve great skin and I’ll explain why in just a bit, but first…*points down below*

COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT THE CLARISONIC

Let’s drum a few things into our brain here, folks. The Clarisonic does not exfoliate your skin. It s NOT going to cure your skin issues. It’s NOT going to cure your acne. It’s not going to make you look like Beyonce in the morning. Let’s just absorb that information into our brains for a sec…got it? Ok, good.

UMMM, OK..WELL THEN WHAT DOES IT DO?

The Clarisonic is a cleaning tool. That is it, that is all. It cleans the crap outta your skin. The Clarisonic makes very few claims for a reason. It will clean your skin 6x more than manual cleaning. It will improve the appearance of your skin — but please do not mistake that as it taking your skin from effing horrible to FABULOUS. Our skin is as individual as our fingerprints. You’re not going to have the same results as everyone else. It will give you the best skin you can have. If the Clarisonic were the end-all-be-all of skin issues and master of keeping us youthful, we’d all have one and we’d all look 12 years old. It can help you retain your youth, but not alone…

The overall effect you get from the Clarisonic depend greatly on the products you use with it. It’s such a powerful cleansing tool that it will allow the products you use to work to their max. You ever see a cleanser or facial cream make all these claims and then you never see them? Well, try them with the Clarisonic. I got a travel size version of the Bliss Youth As We Know It kit (full size kit is like $262 — yikes!) with my purchase free and I used it with my Clarisonic and let me tell you…the results I got were instant. In a week, my dark circles were waaay less dark. I used to have embarrassing lines around my eyes, they’re damn near gone. I wouldn’t have gotten those results without my Clarisonic — and if I were to get those results, it would’ve taken a LOT longer without the Clarisonic.

HOW DOES IT HELP SKIN CARE PRODUCTS WORK BETTER?

We can happily blame that on Sonic technology. The bristles of the Clarisonic, when turned on pulsate 300x’s per second. They do not spin or rotate — it’s more like an oscillating vibration/agitation. When applied to the skin, it gently digs deep to remove makeup, dirt and oil you’d typically leave behind just washing your face with your bare hands. You only need to let the Clarisonic touch your face, you do not need to scrub, you do not need to press hard into the face and neck — it’s already doing all of that hard work for you. When all of the dirt, oil and makeup is out of your skin, your skincare products can get sink into your face and do what they are supposed to do (and if they don’t, try a different skincare product lol).

HOW DO YOU USE IT?

After it’s charged up, you can wet the brush head and apply a small amount of cleanser to the brush, or you can just soap your face up and then turn it on and let it gently massage the gross crap out of your skin. It stays powered on for just 60 seconds. That’s all the time you need. It pauses every 10-20 seconds letting you know it’s time to move to a different part of your face.

Honestly — I don’t focus on the pauses. I just start wherever I want and make sure I go over my entire face and neck in that allotted time. The Clarisonic Plus comes with three speeds and a body brush head. When the body brush head is applied, it stays on for as long as you keep it on and doesn’t power down after 60 seconds like it will with the face brush. Yea, it’s pretty smart. The body brush is great for cleaning your underarms (leftover deodorant residue), great for the feet, and other rough areas of the body. What it does for your face, it can do for your body. Oh, also…make sure you clean your brush heads at least once a week to prevent bacteria from growing and to keep your brushes fresh.

WITHOUT FURTHER ADO…

So here’s my Clarisonic Plus, my bare and scary face, and how I use it…

Ok, so here’s my semi-bare face with blush and two different eyeshadows lol (I was experimenting, don’t judge me). I also have MAC Dark MSF on my face here but most of it melted off…

Super clean skin!!!

Rinsed off and cleaned my brush head…now she’s no longer dirty

Clean!

Time to moisturize…

So here’s the body and sensitive facial brush heads. You can also buy a ‘normal’ brush head, but most people stick to the sensitive one because it’s super gentle and effective…

OVERALL

I cannot go on with my days without this tool. It has improved my skin — greatly. I’m amazed by it and absolutely love it. I love how it puts my skincare products into overdrive, so I’m getting my money’s worth! They truly work the way they’re supposed to because my skin is absorbing them better. There is no dirt, oil or makeup blocking my skincare products from working anymore and that is what this tool does folks. It cleans the crap out of your skin, you do not have to use expensive skincare cleansers/creams along with it — but no matter what you use, it should work a lot better for you.

I highly recommend this product. Don’t wanna drop $225 on it? NO PROBLEM! You can get the exact same results with the Clarisonic Mia — a smaller version of the Classic/Plus units with the same benefits, just in a smaller package (and smaller price tag).

A few things about the Mia: It doesn’t have multiple speeds like the Classic and Plus units, and it doesn’t have a charging cradle. It has a magnetized charging clip. It also doesn’t come with the body brush. The Mia costs $149 and it’s a fabulous way to introduce yourself to the Clarisonic family.

In closing…if you wear makeup, or sweat, or if you’re human — male or female, the Clarisonic is an awesome everyday tool to use in the shower to wash your face thoroughly, and help your skincare products sink into your skin and work their best. I am head over heels in love with it and can’t believe I went so many years without it.

In other news, I am itching to try the new Opal. It has some kinda anti-aging sea-serum in it, and I am turning 30 in November so I need this tool LOL! I can’t afford it right now, but maybe one day…

With all of the individual bottles and tubs and buckets of lotion, body butters and salves in my house…I could un-ashify an entire crackhouse, or about 25 Malik Yoba’s. I literally have enough lotion to take me into my early fifties. I’m always on the quest for something amazing, different, and worth my money.

A little over a month ago I was walking thru Target, and took a stroll down the beauty aisles. Something caught my eye — the black packaging stuck out like a midget in a police line-up and the next thing you know, I was reading an all black label with bright yellow text. I was holding a bottle of Shea Moisture’s Organic African Black Soap Shea Butter Lotion ($8). Say that three times. I twisted the cap off, took a whiff, and my eyes rolled with pleasure. It had this earthy-warm-nutty-buttery scent that I just knew my body would love. I then saw the bar of soap ($5) and although I don’t typically use bar soaps, I was intrigued. The soap, along with the lotion, said it was for “acne prone/troubled skin”. I don’t really have either, but I wanted to use it anyway. I had always had an interest in Black Soap after hearing the benefits.

African Black Soap, made from palm ash, tamarind extract, tar and plantain peel has been used in Africa for centuries to treat eczema, acne, oily skin, psoriasis, and other skin ailments. Combined with the healing and hydrating properties of Shea Butter, this healing lotion should be used daily to balance and resolve skin problems.

source: Shea Moisture

MY THOUGHTS ON THE SOAP

That’s what the bar of black soap looks like. It looks like it has bits and pieces of raw earthy goodies like nuts and oats or something. It has a slight licorice scent, lathers extremely well, and cleans the CRAP outta anything! What I love about this soap is that it doesn’t make my skin feel super tight like pretty much every bar soap I’ve ever used. I wouldn’t say it’s moisturizing, but I remember using a bar of Ivory soap one time, and right after I dried off, it felt like my skin was about to crack. I had to immediately slather baby oil on. I hate that feeling! So no, this bar soap isn’t moisturizing, but it didn’t give me that Tin-man “I need my oilcan” feeling either. I’ve also used it on my face with my Clarisonic, and it leaves it squeaky-clean. Literally. I followed my wash up with the accompanying lotion and it was a beautiful match made in no-ashy-kneecap heaven. This bar lasted me about three weeks of consistent use, and I used it with a pouf for maximum results.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE LOTION

Look at how thick this lotion is! It’s NOT moving lol. But understand that it’s not greasy, despite the thickness. It’s smooth, creamy, fast-absorbing and really smells nice if you’re into that “organic” smell. Notice how it doesn’t have that “wet-shiny” look either. It’s not your typical watered-down, super-greasy shea butter, it kinda looks like buttercream frosting — or maybe I’m just hungry…

THIS LOTION HAS

I can almost see thru to the bottom!

After about 3 weeks…

OVERALL

I really, really love these products so far and have been using them long enough to give them a solid rating. I’ve probably got about another 2 weeks (tops) left of lotion. The bar of soap? It’s pretty much non-existent, lookin’ like a blackened potato chip lol. It was great while it lasted though! Since I don’t have acne-prone or troubled skin, I can’t really comment on that — BUT, sometimes I get super tiny red marks on my body, and I haven’t seen any pop up since I’ve used this. It keeps my skin super soft and supple all day long. I adore how well it absorbs — you don’t feel that slippery, greasy feeling you get with most milkshake thick lotions. I wanted to use these products for a while before doing a review, because things like this take time before you even see results. I am definitely going to try the different items from this line.

I felt the pricing for the lotion was decent, especially since it’s an organic product. I know some of you are probably twisting your face at the thought of paying $5 for a bar of soap, but if you have really bad skin, you wanna invest. It may help you out and end up being priceless. These aren’t your normal run-of-the-mill ingredients either. African Black Soap is pretty expensive, but beneficial for lots of people. Try it!

RATING

*The reason I didn’t rate this higher than a ‘B+’ is because it’s targeted for acne-prone/troubled skin, and I don’t really have that issue. I feel it’s an ‘A’ as far as the other benefits, but I cannot unfairly mislead and give it an A rating in the event someone with acne-prone skin tries it and it sucks for them lol. It’s an ‘A’ in my heart though
