Ooooh the taboo subject of…*whispers*…facial hair!! Ok well maybe it’s not “taboo”, but it’s one of those things most women aren’t comfortable talking about — understandably. I’m gonna attempt to break that ice for you all, because it is something that so many of us face and stress over quietly. Lots of women refuse to go out in public donning their 2 o’clock shadows in an effort to get it removed professionally. Well now you really don’t have to.

Many women already use in-home hair removal products, but there’s a small group of folks who have probably seen these products and were afraid to try them. If you’re looking for a good one to try, consider using Sally Hansen Creme Hair Remover Kit (around $6) and sold wherever Sally Hansen products are sold. You get the remover creme, and a post treatment conditioner that calms and soothes the skin. You only need a small amount of both cremes, and it’s a pretty big tube so you should be good for a while — unless your hair grows back fully within hours.

I have the average amount of body hair that most women have — but mine just happens to be very dark against my skin so it’s daunting as hell. It’s something I’ve grown up with all of my adolescent/adult life so while I think it’s “gross”, I also accept it for what it is. I normally use Veet hair remover on my arms and legs…but for my face I’ve been using the Sally Hansen Creme Hair Remover Kit. I remember the first time I got my “chickstache” waxed..not only did it hurt like hell, but it broke me out. I had these super tiny lil bumps around my mouth and I’m sorry, but in this day and age you cannot go around w/ any bumps near your mouth because folks are always gonna think you’ve had your mouth in dirtier places LOL! After that, I said to heck with waxing and starting using removal cremes made gentle enough for use on the face, and I haven’t looked back.

PROS

Doesn’t irritate my skin — and I have moderately sensitive skin

Pleasant scent, not offensive like normal hair remover cremes at all

Works fast (5 min for me, may be sooner or longer depending on your hair texture)

The post-treatment conditioner makes my skin feel soft and supple afterward

Inexpensive and easy to find

Dermatologist tested and salon tested

Removes the hair very well, I never feel any stubble

CONS

None that I can think of, it does everything it should do for me. It’s not complicated, it’s just a hair remover creme

OVERALL

You all have seen pics of me with my chickstache, I make no secrets about it. I’m not ashamed of it, but I never keep it for too long. I tend to let stuff grow in all the way before I remove it because I just prefer not to waste any product on the slightest sign of regrowth. One application lasts me about 3-4 weeks before I have to use it again, and even then my chickstache hasn’t completely grown back in, but it’s visible enough for me to be anal about it if I want to. The hair also grows back soft and never prickly.

So anyway, I hope that this is helpful for those of you suffering from “chewbacca chin” or any other hair part of the face. I know someone who uses this stuff religiously because of her super-fast growing chin hairs, and she finds plucking to be painful — this stuff works better for her super sensitive skin. I’m no dermatologist, this won’t work for everyone, but it’s so inexpensive that you can probably afford to try it on a very tiny area of the face or elbow just to see how your skin reacts, if at all. If your skin does react, discontinue use. Just make sure you read the directions, because some people don’t and they end up pissed lol.

I don’t have any before and after pics, but this stuff works nicely and I’ll continue to use it for a very long time.

RATING

Availability: all major drugstores, Amazon

Alright, kids…the day has finally come for me to give a full and thorough review of the Clarisonic Plus ($225). I’ve been using this tool since January of this year, and I have many things to say about it *cracks knuckles*, so here we go…

I purchased the Clarisonic Plus this past January and have been using it every day since — well, I may have gone a day or two without using it (lazy hungover weekends), but for the most part it’s in my every day routine.

I can only do this review based on my own personal experience. So let’s first go over what the Clarisonic Plus claims to do and what it comes with…

Sonic Skin Cleansing improves the appearance of skin tone and reduces the appearance of pore size

Clarisonic developed the sonic technology proven to gently yet effectively loosen dirt and oil to clear your pores. The Sonic Skin Cleansing System uses a patented sonic frequency of more than 300 movements per second to clean, soften and smooth your skin. In just 60 seconds a day, the micro-massage action cleans more than twice as effectively as manual cleansing.

Clarisonic Sonic Cleansing Benefits

Removes 6x more makeup than manual cleansing

Leaves skin feeling and looking smoother

Cleanses so well that products absorb better

Gentle enough for twice daily use

Helps reduce oily areas, dry skin patches and blemishes

Helps reduce the appearance of visible pores

Kit includes:

Cordless Clarisonic PLUS

Universal Charging Cradle (100v-240v AC; 50/60 Hz)

Sensitive Brush Head

Body Brush Head

1 oz. trial sizes of Refreshing Gel Cleanser, Gentle Hydro Cleanser and Nourishing Care Cleanser

2 oz. trial size Refining Skin Polish

IS THAT CLAIM TRUE?

For me, it absolutely is. My skin has never been this clean. I no longer have dry patchy areas in the crevices of my nose. My skin glows and it’s very smooth. Not to mention, my pores are tight as crap (which is awesome) — they used to be wide open like “HAAY JUMP IN!”. I never had terrible skin, but I never had perfect skin either. I did not expect this product to give me perfect skin, but it damn sure gave me a platform to achieve great skin and I’ll explain why in just a bit, but first…*points down below*

COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT THE CLARISONIC

Let’s drum a few things into our brain here, folks. The Clarisonic does not exfoliate your skin. It s NOT going to cure your skin issues. It’s NOT going to cure your acne. It’s not going to make you look like Beyonce in the morning. Let’s just absorb that information into our brains for a sec…got it? Ok, good.

UMMM, OK..WELL THEN WHAT DOES IT DO?

The Clarisonic is a cleaning tool. That is it, that is all. It cleans the crap outta your skin. The Clarisonic makes very few claims for a reason. It will clean your skin 6x more than manual cleaning. It will improve the appearance of your skin — but please do not mistake that as it taking your skin from effing horrible to FABULOUS. Our skin is as individual as our fingerprints. You’re not going to have the same results as everyone else. It will give you the best skin you can have. If the Clarisonic were the end-all-be-all of skin issues and master of keeping us youthful, we’d all have one and we’d all look 12 years old. It can help you retain your youth, but not alone…

The overall effect you get from the Clarisonic depend greatly on the products you use with it. It’s such a powerful cleansing tool that it will allow the products you use to work to their max. You ever see a cleanser or facial cream make all these claims and then you never see them? Well, try them with the Clarisonic. I got a travel size version of the Bliss Youth As We Know It kit (full size kit is like $262 — yikes!) with my purchase free and I used it with my Clarisonic and let me tell you…the results I got were instant. In a week, my dark circles were waaay less dark. I used to have embarrassing lines around my eyes, they’re damn near gone. I wouldn’t have gotten those results without my Clarisonic — and if I were to get those results, it would’ve taken a LOT longer without the Clarisonic.

HOW DOES IT HELP SKIN CARE PRODUCTS WORK BETTER?

We can happily blame that on Sonic technology. The bristles of the Clarisonic, when turned on pulsate 300x’s per second. They do not spin or rotate — it’s more like an oscillating vibration/agitation. When applied to the skin, it gently digs deep to remove makeup, dirt and oil you’d typically leave behind just washing your face with your bare hands. You only need to let the Clarisonic touch your face, you do not need to scrub, you do not need to press hard into the face and neck — it’s already doing all of that hard work for you. When all of the dirt, oil and makeup is out of your skin, your skincare products can get sink into your face and do what they are supposed to do (and if they don’t, try a different skincare product lol).

HOW DO YOU USE IT?

After it’s charged up, you can wet the brush head and apply a small amount of cleanser to the brush, or you can just soap your face up and then turn it on and let it gently massage the gross crap out of your skin. It stays powered on for just 60 seconds. That’s all the time you need. It pauses every 10-20 seconds letting you know it’s time to move to a different part of your face.

Honestly — I don’t focus on the pauses. I just start wherever I want and make sure I go over my entire face and neck in that allotted time. The Clarisonic Plus comes with three speeds and a body brush head. When the body brush head is applied, it stays on for as long as you keep it on and doesn’t power down after 60 seconds like it will with the face brush. Yea, it’s pretty smart. The body brush is great for cleaning your underarms (leftover deodorant residue), great for the feet, and other rough areas of the body. What it does for your face, it can do for your body. Oh, also…make sure you clean your brush heads at least once a week to prevent bacteria from growing and to keep your brushes fresh.

WITHOUT FURTHER ADO…

So here’s my Clarisonic Plus, my bare and scary face, and how I use it…

Ok, so here’s my semi-bare face with blush and two different eyeshadows lol (I was experimenting, don’t judge me). I also have MAC Dark MSF on my face here but most of it melted off…

These are the makeup-remover wipes I use. I get these from Costco…

Wiped off all of my makeup…ew…

Completely bare and naked face…

Using my Bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash (LOVE THIS STUFF!)

Here’s the back of my Clarisonic Plus…

Here’s the side…

One full pump of the cleanser on my brush head…

Washing my face…

Look at all the dirt my makeup-remover wipe left behind…gross!!

Ewwww….

*gag*

Yuck!!

Super clean skin!!!

Rinsed off and cleaned my brush head…now she’s no longer dirty

Clean!

Time to moisturize…

So here’s the body and sensitive facial brush heads. You can also buy a ‘normal’ brush head, but most people stick to the sensitive one because it’s super gentle and effective…

OVERALL

I cannot go on with my days without this tool. It has improved my skin — greatly. I’m amazed by it and absolutely love it. I love how it puts my skincare products into overdrive, so I’m getting my money’s worth! They truly work the way they’re supposed to because my skin is absorbing them better. There is no dirt, oil or makeup blocking my skincare products from working anymore and that is what this tool does folks. It cleans the crap out of your skin, you do not have to use expensive skincare cleansers/creams along with it — but no matter what you use, it should work a lot better for you.

I highly recommend this product. Don’t wanna drop $225 on it? NO PROBLEM! You can get the exact same results with the Clarisonic Mia — a smaller version of the Classic/Plus units with the same benefits, just in a smaller package (and smaller price tag).

A few things about the Mia: It doesn’t have multiple speeds like the Classic and Plus units, and it doesn’t have a charging cradle. It has a magnetized charging clip. It also doesn’t come with the body brush. The Mia costs $149 and it’s a fabulous way to introduce yourself to the Clarisonic family.

In closing…if you wear makeup, or sweat, or if you’re human — male or female, the Clarisonic is an awesome everyday tool to use in the shower to wash your face thoroughly, and help your skincare products sink into your skin and work their best. I am head over heels in love with it and can’t believe I went so many years without it.

In other news, I am itching to try the new Opal. It has some kinda anti-aging sea-serum in it, and I am turning 30 in November so I need this tool LOL! I can’t afford it right now, but maybe one day…

I’m not gonna have a good day at all. I’m gonna have a horrible dry lip – crusty knuckle kinda day and that’s just not a good thing. Did you get hit in the head with a cast iron skillet? Rosebud Salve to the rescue!

To be honest, when I first tried it — I’m talking very first use…I said to myself “Um, this aint nothin’ but high end Vaseline”. I jumped the gun and even reviewed it on Sephora as such. I feel terrible for giving it such a mediocre review — it deserved better. I learned then that I have to give products time before I open my big mouth. Oh Rosebud, will you ever forgive me? ♥

Rosebud Salve — a beauty staple

You wouldn’t apply this much to your lips, just wanted to show you the consistency

PROS

Hydrating and protecting

A little goes a LONG way…

Silky smooth formula that doesn’t leave any heavy residue like Vaseline

Melts beautifully wherever you apply it — it isn’t waxy at all

Great for de-ashifying yourself (yea I totally made that word up)

Soft rose scent

Small and compact for your purse or pocket (although if you keep it on your pocket, it can melt so be aware)

Has many uses — not just for lips

Great for helping to exfoliate your lips

CONS

Hard to find in stores — I have to order it online

Comes in a tin tub, which some people may dislike because they have to use their fingers

OVERALL

It has some of the same benefits as Vaseline as far as healing burns, itchy skin, dry skin patches, etc. But it doesn’t have that thick, goopy and cheap consistency like Vaseline. When I slather Vaseline on, I feel like I’m wearing a coat made of petroluem jelly It’s got this heavy thickness to it that may be fine for our ashy kneecaps and elbows, but if you want something that melts a lot better, try Rosebud Salve. I feel like when I wear Rosebud Salve, my skin can breathe — it doesn’t feel that way with Vaseline.

My main use for it is for my lips. I use this in place of my many other lip balms because I love the way it feels on my freshly exfoliated lips and it even helps me exfoliate my lips better. I’d apply a generous amount of it, take a moist washcloth and gently massage my lips until all of the dead skin comes off. It prevents my lips from being torn apart and ripped open, its so soothing. It makes for an awesome lip balm underneath a drying lipstick as well. I love that it doesn’t give me that waxy feel like Burt’s Bees or Carmex — I find that those don’t sink into my lips at all, they just sit on top and eventually dry them out. But Rosebud Salve makes my lips so silky smooth and juicy – LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!

Heavens to Betsy! I finally got my Chanel fix in the form of a beautiful blue-based red lipstick called Paris from Chanel’s Rouge Coco line. This lipstick is everything. Smooth, creamy, hydrating, super long lasting…and gorgeous. I have a serious love for beautiful blue-based red lipsticks, they are my favorite — and Paris has wiggled her way into my top favorite reds. I picked this tube up at the Chanel counter at my local Macy’s…after telling myself I wasn’t gonna buy it anytime soon. Chanel lipsticks are expensive, and I just cannot go around spending $30 on a single tube of lipstick all willy-nilly…

However, I had a talk with a co-worker who basically assured me that because I’m single and I don’t have any kids that this is the time to be selfish and spend my money on things I want — because when I get tied down, I won’t have that freedom. She’s right, but still…I have to exercise responsibility lol. I went to the counter just to swatch Paris again and walk away and that’s when it happened. I said to myself, “Screw it, I’m gonna buy this so I can stop lemming”. Now she’s all mine and I’m good on Chanel lipsticks for a while. I probably won’t pick another one up for another month or so.

CHANEL introduces a modern interpretation of classic creme lip colour as an homage to the rich life and legacy of ‘Coco’ Chanel. New lightweight lip colour glides on for easy application, and features a Hydratendre complex to help soften, soothe and condition lips – even boosting their ability to hold in moisture – for a plumper, smoother and healthier-looking appearance. A range of wearable shades with full-coverage finishes, from matte to pearl to soft shimmer.

Paris is beautiful. She’s a clean, bright seriously blue-based red and I think she’d look fabulous on anyone bold enough to even wear red lips to begin with. I reviewed Gabrielle not too long ago, and she’s more of a bright neutral red with small bits of blue whereas Paris is completely blue based. A color dupe for Paris would be MAC’s Ruby Woo — but Ruby Woo is completely matte. If you want this color and don’t wanna shuck out $30 for it, pick up Ruby Woo and wear a clear gloss over it. Paris is way more hydrating and moisturizing than Ruby Woo though, so be aware that they’re two completely different formulas despite the shade similarities. Blue-based reds also help make the teeth appear whiter, so that’s something to keep in mind.

Let me tell ya’ll something kind of embarrassing (but I honestly have no shame)…I put this lipstick on, wore it for about two hours and ate dinner. Well no, that’s not true — I didn’t “eat” my dinner, I wolfed it down like it was my last meal. Lip smacking, finger-licking…all manners were thrown out the window. I ate my meal like I forgot I had this lipstick on — because I did forget I had it on! When I put my plate away and went into the bathroom to wash my hands I said “Oh snap! It stayed on!”. I’m serious when I say it STAYED ON. I didn’t even have to touch it up (except remove a crumb from my bottom lip lol). I was very amazed and happy to see that because nobody likes reapplying their lipstick after every single sip of water, kiss on the cheek, etc. That can get annoying and before you know it, your lipstick is down to a nub.

Again, these lipstick’s are not cheap. They’re a nice to have luxury. If you’ve got the extra money to spend, then pick one up. There are a lot of different shades for all types of appetites. I just happen to be drawn to the reds

*Remember, any lipstick looks best on freshly exfoliated, supple lips. Remove any dead skin flakes, and moisturize prior to application for the best appearance.

It's hotter than the rubber on the bottom of Precious's shoes after she stole that bucket of chicken and ran off to class like a bat out of hell. Miserable, huh? I hate this time of year! The east coast humidity is just...so ridiculous and unfair.

I see you. You’re outside standing under a 900-thread count blanket of heat and humidity. You’re not happy. Your makeup is sliding off your face. You’re sweating like a hooker in church. You’re greasier than Jermaine Jackson in 1997. It’s hotter than the rubber on the bottom of Precious’s shoes after she stole that bucket of chicken and ran off to class like a bat out of hell. Miserable, huh? I hate this time of year! The east coast humidity is just…so ridiculous and unfair. You can stand outside and literally do nothing but stand…and start pouring buckets of sweat. That ain’t right! I get so greasy and oily this time of year, so I needed something to soak up that oil like a Popeye’s biscuit…and I found it!!!

Urban Decay (one of my top five favorite cosmetic brands ever in life) have created a to-go fix for you oily girls called the De-Slick Mattifying Powder ($30). What is it? It’s a wonderful and convenient way to touch up your oily, yet beautiful face without having to worry about messy loose powders. Well, that’s my explanation…here’s Urban Decays:

One of our Co-Founder’s favorite products! This shine-stopping pressed powder blots oil and keeps shine at bay. Try it on naked skin (if you run into the hot guy at the gym), or over foundation (for touch-ups on the dance floor without destroying your makeup). Because the formula contains super lightweight, oil-absorbing rice powder, you won’t feel the powder, but you’ll see the shine-free results. The lavender shade applies invisibly and works on every skin tone, from dark chocolate to palest porcelain.

Keep De-Slick in your bag at all times! The gorgeous, transparent purple compact seems to glow from within, featuring Urban Decay embellishments of skulls, flourishes and flowers. Pop it open to reveal a mirror and handy application puff.

Oh, and it’s vegan too!

You guys know all about that infamous Make Up For Ever HD Powder? Well this stuff is like a pressed version of that you can take with you on the go. It’s virtually invisible and doesn’t leave an ashy white cast (unless you OD and use too much). It comes with a beautiful puff and all you have to do is dab the product onto the puff and blot your face — BOOM! That’s basically it. Since I bought this, I haven’t been without it. It lives in my purse and goes wherever I go.

This stuff is awesome!

YAAAAS!! (shoutout to my chipped nail polish LOL!)

The actual product lasts a very long time for me. I apply my makeup around 7′ish every morning before work, and I get home around 6pm, and guess what? My face is still going strong. Makeup is still on, shininess is on mute. Why? Because this stuff is amazing. I don’t have the oiliest skin in the world, but I do get slick and shiny. This stuff isn’t an oily skin cure — but it’s definitely a quick fix that, depending on how oily you are, can last a handful of hours. I really think you should try it if you’re looking for something clean and easy to soak up your oil. Plus, it’s pretty lol.

PROS

Gorgeous packaging

You get a crapload of product for the price

Comes with puff and mirror

Reduces shine immensely

Can be applied on top of makeup or to a bare face

Doesn’t leave a ghost-like ashy white cast to your face

Because it’s invisible, it works on any skin-tone

A little goes a LONG way

It kinda has some airbrushing qualities to it, when you put it on it smooths tiny imperfections

Convenient

Doesn’t clog pores

Doesn’t irritate the skin

Doesn’t “build up” or get cakey like a regular blot powder would

CONS

Has a weird, slight medicinal scent to it but it doesn’t transfer to your face

The purple side of the puff inside the compact sticks to the mirror and ends up smudging it

OVERALL

I’m extremely happy with this product. For $30, you’re getting a ton of de-slick powder and it should last you a very long time. You do not need to scrap the puff over this and pick up a ton of powder, just lightly dab it and then blot your face — it’s that simple. If you’re looking to decrease the grease, I suggest you try this wonderful stuff here. This allows you to control your oil without packing on more and more makeup. Fabulous!

RATING

*wow, I look really tired here…

I would describe this color as a bright slightly blue-based red. There are bits of yellow in this too, but not nearly as much blue. This is one of those colors you can wear alone with nothing else on your face but maybe eyeliner and mascara.

This beautiful, creamy, smooth and long-wearing lipstick has crawled its way into my top 5 favorite red lipsticks. I adore the packaging, the signature Chanel logo engraved on the top, also engraved into the lipstick itself — its beautiful. Richly pigmented, this isn’t one of those colors you have to smear on twenty times to build up color. It’s perfectly opaque and feels really good on the lips. It also has that expensive scent lol, I can’t describe it…but it’s nice. It also has a beautiful sheen to it, I don’t think you’d need a gloss at all but you’re absolutely within your rights to use one if you’d like. I like it without a gloss, personally.

It’s pricey, but it’s Chanel. If you’re on a budget it’s by no means anything you’re going to die without, but it’s a beautiful luxury to have if you’re looking for something high-end. The next red shade from the Rouge Coco line I’m dying to get is Paris. I swatched it at Macy’s and almost died LOL! So pretty!

*Remember, any lipstick looks best on freshly exfoliated, supple lips. Remove any dead skin flakes, and moisturize prior to application for the best appearance.

Availability: Chanel and Chanel counters at Macy’s

-Stay beautiful

I can’t even begin to tell you how far drugstore foundations have come over the years. I remember back in high school, every girl who wore foundation had a ring around her shirt collar. It was a dead, orangey giveaway that was never flattering. I always saw it after gym class, when she’d be all sweaty and crap. Her makeup would melt off and party on her shirt collar -ugh. I never wanted to have that symbolic orangey brown makeup collar so I avoided foundations altogether. I just felt they’d look cakey and unnatural, so I was like “Screw it!”.

Years have passed, and I’ve found a new love. Revlon Colorstay Foundation with Softflex ($8.99 – $13.99, 1 oz.) is the best drugstore foundation I’ve ever used. I love it and I especially love that it doesn’t transfer. What do I mean by “transfer”? Well, any foundation, no matter how much or how little you spend, will rub off if you rub it off. They’re not stains, they don’t sink into your skin, so they can be removed if you rub your face on something. But, there are some foundations that just after a tiny bit of sweating, will break down and drip and slide right off your face onto your clothes. This is reminiscent of what I’d see in high school and it was gross.

You may notice how each bottle says it’s the same color, but the one on the right is slightly darker than the one on the left. I would assume it has to do with the SPF. The Normal/Dry formula has an SPF of 12, and is slightly lighter than the Combo/Oily formula, which doesn’t have SPF. I could be wrong, so if that’s not the case someone let me know. All I do know is that even though they vary slightly in color they both match me when blended in. I wear the Normal/Dry in the winter, and the Combo/Oily in the summer when I’m a shade darker, but you can do whatever you want.

(Unblended swatch on my face)

(Blended swatch on my face)

This stuff is indeed my holy grail drugstore foundation (so far). I absolutely love this foundation and will continue to buy it — I’m already on my third bottle! I’m wearing this foundation in this post here.

PROS

Applies easily with a foundation brush or fingers.

It lasts on my face all day.

I don’t notice any oxidizing — meaning it darkens or turns orange on the skin throughout the day.

It looks natural and flawless.

It’s lightweight, I often forget I’m even wearing it.

Both formulas are oil-free.

It’s transfer-resistant. I can sweat in this and it doesn’t drip onto my clothes, water can get on my face and it still doesn’t trip onto my clothes.

CONS

It doesn’t come in a wide variety of shades.

It doesn’t have a pump.

It’s a drugstore foundation and you can’t really test these, unless you have the balls to open the bottle like I do and swatch it before you buy.

The way my foundation performs for me, may not be the case for you, but I seriously feel that this foundation is priced so that just about anyone can afford to try it at least once and see how it works. You may get a good deal at CVS, they often have a BOGO deal where you can buy one at full price and get a second bottle for free. Definitely give this one a try, and if you hate it, you can return it.

Ahh…the wonderful, yet confusing world of bronzers. There are so many of them on the market, in so many forms. You’ve probably seen powders, gels, creams, liquids…it’s enough to overwhelm anyone. Sometimes finding a good bronzer is as hard as finding a decent man. Bronzers are often overlooked by many people because they just don’t have any knowledge about them, and don’t consider them when applying their makeup. What is a bronzer? Why should I wear one? I’m already brown, so why do I need one? Where do I apply it and what do I apply it with? What’s a good one? These are the popular questions I hear when I mention the word “bronzer”. Let me answer some of those questions for you..

WHAT’S A BRONZER?

A bronzer is a product that simply gives you that beautiful, golden ‘I’ve been out in the sun wrestling around with a hot sexy pool boy’ tan look without actually having to spend time baking under those harsh UVA/UVB rays — or fooling around with the pool boy.

WHY SHOULD I WEAR ONE?

You don’t have to wear a bronzer at all. But for those of you who want to warm and deepen the natural grooves of your facial features, all while looking natural and gorgeously sun-kissed…then a bronzer might be your solution.

I’M ALREADY DARK, SO WHY DO I NEED ONE?

This is a common misconception among women with darker skin. They think that because they already have deep complexions, a bronzer is unnecessary and is only for women with lighter or more fair skin. Not true. Most darker skinned women already have deep golden undertones to their skin, but those areas could always use a bit of contouring. The right bronzer on darker skin is really what ultimately seals the deal for your entire makeup look and will give you that “bronzed goddess” look many of us want. You could just wear a tinted moisturizer, lipgloss and mascara and leave the house..but if you add bronzer? You’d so be ready for your close-up!

WHERE DO I APPLY IT?

You want to put your bronzer in the areas where the sun would naturally kiss your skin. Buffing it along the hairline the hairline/forehead, jawline, bridge of your nose, contours of your cheeks are great spots.

WHAT DO I APPLY IT WITH?

You want to use a brush that will give you soft and blended precision. If the brush is too fluffy, it may spread the product to places where you wouldn’t normally be sun-kissed. Personally, I prefer to apply my bronzer with my MAC 165 brush, it’s a small tapered (pointy) shaped brush that allows for perfect product placement, and soft blending so you’re left without harsh edges. Blending is key! Click here to see some of the brushes I use for bronzer.

WHAT’S CONSIDERED A “GOOD” BRONZER?

A good bronzer is one that will enhance the warmth of the skin. If you have warm, golden tones to your skin, a good bronzer will definitely take things to new heights. If you don’t have any naturally warm tones to your skin (meaning you’re pink and cool-toned), a good bronzer will “fake it” for you.

MY FAVORITE BRONZER?

The “Hands Down” award goes to Facefront’s PhotoMatte Baked Bronzer ($21 – 18grams). I use the colors Fully Baked and Half Baked. This bronzer is an unsung hero in the makeup world. Many people don’t know about it, and you probably never hear about it. That doesn’t mean it sucks, that just means it’s a hidden gem. It is a loose powder, with a small amount of SPF (5). You only need a super tiny amount of this stuff so it should last you a VERY long time. Make sure you use a very light hand too, because it’s CRAZY pigmented! You could easily apply too much.

It’s time to dump those glittery bronzers and get a professional bronzing solution. Photo Matte Mineral Bronzer with all new Micronic Radiance mineral spheres provides superior sheer to semi-opaque coverage for dramatic photography, stage, or day-to-day matte bronzing effect. This completely natural bronzing pot won’t let you down, with three shades to match any skin tone color, the fairest of the fair, or the deepest of the deep can now have maximum matte bronze power without looking too shimmery or falsely orange.

Our new formula gives an easier-to-blend application and is best use with a soft kabuki brush or blush brush. Don’t let the color fool you, once you blend into forehead, cheeks, or eye area, you’ll see maximum color payoff. A soft, natural matte finish with new Micronic Radiance mineral spheres keep skin oil-free in studio photography.

Here are a few pics of me wearing this bronzer.

See the warmth? The only thing I wish the Facefront bronzer had, was a compact version that I could take on the road with me for touch ups. I’m too clumsy to carry around a loose powder and I’d probably cry if I spilled this stuff all over my purse and ruined everything inside

OTHER BRONZER FAVORITES:

MAC Refined Golden bronzer ($22)

Bobbi Brown Illuminating Bronzer Powder in Barbados Tan ($33)

The MAC and Bobbi Brown bronzers have light reflecting particles, so there is a slight shimmer but it’s nothing too over the top, and they don’t accentuate fine lines. They’re really gorgeous on the skin and also last a very long time if used correctly. It typically takes me a full year to go through one MAC Refined Golden bronzer, and that’s with every day use.

Now that we know a little more about bronzers, its up to you to try some out to determine which one works for you. Try to stay away from anything too chalky, or anything that would make your skin appear dirty or muddy. You want a sexy golden “I’ve been vacationing in Aruba”, not a dirty “I’ve been rolling around with a warthog”.

I hope this helped answer some questions for those of you who don’t really know too much about bronzers. If you’ve found your holy grail bronzer, let me know!

-Stay beautiful

Weird.

So yea, I knew my undertones and when I saw the girl who best matched my skin on the “shade finder” tool, I told my girl Tish and she sent me a sample of that very color and it matched P-E-R-F-E-C-T-L-Y!!! After I finished the sample, I bought a bottle, no questions asked. I couldn’t believe how insanely perfect the match was. It was like applying liquid skin to my face. Could it be? Did I finally find my HG foundation? is Ed “Too Tall” Jones too tall?

THE WEBSITE SAYS…

HD Invisible Cover Foundation – $40 (1.01 oz)

What it is:
An oil-free medium-to-full-coverage liquid foundation that covers skin imperfections flawlessly while remaining invisible on-screen and in real life.

What it does:
This foundation creates a soft-focus effect, which is designed to meet the coverage concerns of those in the spotlight. It leaves your complexion with such a flawless finish, it can withstand bright or harsh lighting.

What else you need to know:
This Sephora-exclusive foundation comes in 25 shades to suit all skintones.

WHAT I SAY…

Two pumps of this foundation for my entire face/neck and it’s plenty. The coverage is very smooth and even, not patchy at all. It’s buildable for those who need more coverage. I like to use my fingers or a standard foundation brush with a stippling/skunk brush to buff it out for a flawless finish.

Feels very lightweight on, I forget I’m even wearing it.

Doesn’t have a heavy “cosmeticky” scent to it. In fact, I don’t smell it at all.

Minimizes my pores like no other.

It doesn’t block ALL of the oil, but it does help keep most of it at bay. I’m not as shiny as I would be without it.

Looks amazing in photos, even close-ups! Doesn’t have an ashy cast to it at all.

This stuff seriously lasts on my skin until I get home from work. So for a close to 10-hour run, that’s damn good!

IS IT WORTH IT?

Does a 10lb bag of flour make a really big biscuit?? Hell yea its worth it! With proper use, it should last you a while. You don’t need to squirt this baby all buckwild, 2-3 pumps should be plenty. You may like it, you may not, but I absolutely love it and until I find something more “holy-grail” worthy, I won’t stop using it. It works insanely well for me, and I still cannot get over how well it matches. I have several foundations I’m trying right now but I always seem to go back to this one. As of now, this is my HG foundation…but we know in the world of beauty and how often new things come out, that could always change

RATING
