Pink on Brown: MAC Lickable cremesheen

It’s been a long time since I’ve done a Pink on Brown lip. I’d say about 70% of my lipsticks are in the pink family, so finding a pink to use for this series isn’t exactly hard. My problem is that I can never make up my mind which pink I wanna do next, knowing that I’m gonna eventually go thru them all. Terrible. So here’s a pink that I adore from MAC called Lickable (cremesheen). It’s a pretty blue-based cool pink, with lots of shiny agents thrown in for good measure.

I really, really love this color. It’s one of my favorite bright Barbie pink colors, without being too ashy or frosty. It’s really pretty on light-medium dark skin-tones. If you’re darker, you may wanna line your lips with a more fuchsia/magenta liner, then softly blend so there’s a gradual transition. Or you could just apply a slightly darker pink gloss on top.

It’s a cremesheen, which basically means its a creamy-sheen lol. I find all lipsticks drying to some degree, no matter the formula — so as always, you’d be better off wearing a balm underneath any lip color to prevent Malik Yoba lips

Pink on Brown: NYX African Queen

Happy Mother’s Day to all you wonderful mothers out there! Especially to my own mom, who is probably the silliest woman I know…and where I get my everything from. She taught me how to cook, how to live and how to love. A phenomenal 52 year old powerhouse who acts 25 and appreciates the present moment while living each day is if it were her last. I couldn’t ask for a better mom. I know she’s probably reading this, so I love you mom! Hope you cook soon…I’m hungry! So now that all of that mushy stuff is out of the way, it’s Pink on Brown time! Today’s pink lip is brought to you by NYX. I’m wearing the African Queen mega-shine lip gloss (around $5 a pop), which is one of my absolute favorite lip colors of all time. I would describe the color as a “bright-pearlescent-fuchsia”. There’s lots of pink and purple tilts to this one, and it’s just gorgeous. It’s so opaque and it glides on like Brian Boitano on ice — just smooooth. It’s creamy, it isn’t sticky or goopy like your normal lip gloss, and it wears well. It has a light cherry scent and it’s completely tasteless, which will help you to avoid licking it all off.

Because I don’t have any kids, I treat my dog Ruben like he’s my child. Here’s a few pics of me wearing the gloss and squeezing the life out of my little pooch.

Loves it! If you’re into bright sexy pinks, I highly recommend this one. You can find it for as little as $3.75, and you’re getting a ton of product — .53fl oz to be exact! Even if you wore it everyday, it would last you a really long time. This one is a winner. The best part? It looks good on any skin-tone

HOW DOES IT HOLD UP?

French Kiss Survival: 2/5 – this shade will be all over your lips and whoever you’re kissing, smeared and somewhat messy.
Grandma Kiss Survival: 4/5 – a quick peck on the cheek will not remove this product from your lips.
Eating Survival: 3.5/5 – I murdered some chinese food wearing this and it still looked fresh. I did reapply just a small bit to the center of my lips.
Work Appropriate? I won’t lie, it’s a bit of a in-yo-face pink, but it’s not the loudest pink I’ve ever worn either. In my industry I can wear this, but I’d say no if you’re in anything other than an artsy-fartsy field.
Church Appropriate? Nope.

Pink on Brown: MAC’s Girl About Town

Who doesn’t love juicy kissable hot pink lips? MAC’s Girl About Town lipstick ($14 – Amplified) is a favorite in my collection because it’s so “OH, HAYBOO!!” loud, yet very wearable and just downright gorgeous. I haven’t seen any skin-tone that can’t rock this color. MAC describes it as a “fabulous fuschia”, and that’s pretty damn accurate. It’s also listed under their “bestselling shades”, so that should tell you something. Just about everyone loves this and everyone can wear it. From the super light to the super dark, this is your shade!

The formula is very creamy and it has a nice sheen to it. Amplified’s are one my favorite lipstick formulas from MAC because they don’t dry out the lips as much as a Satin or Matte would. I always wear a balm before I apply my lipstick, but still, this is such a luscious and juicy color. Check it out…

One of my favorite ways to wear this pretty lipstick is to pair it with MAC’s Comet Blue Dazzleglass (discontinued, sadly…but lets pray they bring it back). You don’t have to wear a gloss with this lipstick if you don’t want to. As you can see, it’s got plenty of sheen to it, but I love to push the envelope with my lip colors and make them as snazzy as possible.

Sorry that last pic is so blurry (FAIL), but you should get the point lol. I recommend this shade for all skin-tones. I love this one, it’s another winner especially for my brown-skinned girls afraid of color. Time to step out of that “Neutral Box-o-Doom” and jazz up your sexy pout. This color is so vivid that you can lightly dab it on to completely tone it down if you’re not as comfortable wearing it as full-on as I am here. I found this shade to be pretty long-lasting, too. It really sets into the lips and stains them quite nicely, so you shouldn’t have to reapply every hour on the hour.

HOW DOES IT HOLD UP?

French Kiss Survival: 3/5 – this shade will be all over your lips and whoever you’re kissing, smeared and somewhat messy. If your S/O is anal about having your lipstick transfer all over him, don’t kiss them in this one…it’ll stain them up like nobody’s business.
Grandma Kiss Survival: 4/5 – a quick peck on the cheek will not remove this product from your lips, unless you’re giving someone a really hard, forceful grandma kiss. They may have a pink tinge on their cheek, but they should be able to easily wipe it away.
Eating Survival: 4.5/5 – unless you eat like the Tazmanian Devil, this should survive your meal for the most part. Some of it will fade, but you shouldn’t have to totally reapply it as if it was never there. This lipstick really sets in pretty well.
Work Appropriate? Maybe not full-on, but if you dabbed it lightly onto your lips it would be completely wearable for work.
Church Appropriate? No.

Pink on Brown: MAC’s Petals & Peacocks

Attention beautiful brown-skinned ladies! Any ridiculous claims that stress “we” cannot wear bright pink lipsticks, is absolutely false! I’m here to put that myth to rest, 12 feet under! If anything, your gorgeous chocolate hues were made for colors like this. While it’s true that not everyone can wear the exact same pink or red, it’s also true that everyone CAN wear certain shades of pinks and reds. Here I am rocking the lovely Petals & Peacocks (amplified – $14) lipstick from MAC’s Give Me Liberty of London collection, which has already jumped into my pool of favorites.

It’s a gorgeous, creamy cool pink and semi-opaque but buildable. It’s an ‘amplified’ formula, which means it’s not as drying as a ‘matte’ or ‘satin’ formula and it also has a nice sheen to it. I’m wearing just a small amount of clear lipgloss dabbed very lightly in the center for added moisture. I really love MAC’s amplified formulas, along with their satin’s because I find they leave a very light stain. You may not want a stain, but I actually like it. I have to re-apply lightly after eating/drinking though, which isn’t a big deal to me.

I would recommend this shade for all skin-tones. Darker skinned ladies CAN wear this shade, but you’ll have to bust out a few tricks to get it to work. Try lining it with a darker lipliner, such as MAC’s Currant, Nightmoth or Vino. You’ll want to blend those colors together so that your liner isn’t obvious.

HOW DOES IT HOLD UP?

French Kiss Survival: 2.5 /5 – after the first 5 swaps of tongue, most this lipstick will probably be gone, and all over the person you’re slobbing down.
Grandma Kiss Survival: 4.5/5 – you should be able to give someone a quick peck on the cheek and not lose any color. They’ll have a little on their cheek, but it could easily be wiped away.
Eating Survival: 3.5/5 – a considerable amount will fade during eating and drinking, but there will be enough left over so that you don’t have to reapply so much. You will have to reapply lipgloss though, if you’re wearing any.
Work Appropriate? Ehhh, I wouldn’t do it. It’s a very bright “HAY YA’LL!!!” kinda color. I’d only wear this out with friends or to a party. If you work in an industry where super bold makeup is acceptable, then go for it.
Church Appropriate? No.

Pink on Brown: MAC’s Rebel lipstick

Oh yes baby! One of my absolute ‘Holy Grail’ lipsticks from MAC would have to be the gorgeous Rebel (satin – $14). Described as a “vivid pinkish-purple“, I have worn this baby out and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. It’s one of the most gorgeous colors I’ve ever worn. It’s a satin formula, which tends to be a little drying, but because this color is so beautiful I put up with it. But to be honest, I combat that by moisturizing the crap outta my lips prior to application to minimize the drying. This lipstick also stains a little…just a little. So even after you’re done eating or drinking, it’ll still be there, but it’ll give your lips that “flushed” look. It’s a very opaque shade, so you won’t need to pile it on. My mom has tried this color and she loves it. I should buy her one so she can stop borrowing mine, but I’m telling you…brown girls, this color would look amazing on you!

Here are a couple of shots of me wearing this color. It’s my second most used lipstick and I’m so glad it’s permanent so I don’t have to drive myself crazy looking for backups and/or dupes. If you’re afraid of colors like this, I’m gonna give you some corny advice: Be a Rebel and wear Rebel, dammit!

I highly recommend this shade for all skin-tones. I seriously feel its a color that anyone can get away with wearing. It looks brighter in my pictures than what it really is. You can dab this one lightly for just a touch of POW!, or you can really apply heavily for a vixen-like pout. I actually wear this shade to work often. It’s not too much, because there’s enough purple in it to really bring down the pink and make it wearable yet sexy.

HOW DOES IT HOLD UP?
