A few of my lovely makeup loving friends on Twitter made a huge mistake by telling me about a really great sale on the Walgreen’s website — don’t they know I have little to no self-control?? Seeing as how the closest Walgreen’s is about 25 minutes away (and I’m far too lazy to make that trip), I bought a few inexpensive makeup items from the website and received my package today. I bought mostly Wet-n-Wild items because they never have a great selection of the brand at my local CVS — womp! Anyway, I got two of the Wet-n-Wild Color Icon eyeshadow palettes in Vanity and Lust. Oh, did I mention they were only $2.49?
Each palette features six eyeshadows and they’re named after the 7-deadly sins. I mean, I think it’s kinda corny but whatever works for them lol. Here’s how Wet-n-Wild describes this product:
Glamour-eyes from day to night! Each complementary shade can be mixed-and-matched for a variety of day-to-night looks. These palettes of 3 matte and 3 highly-pigmented effect shades are sure to please the shade sassy minimalist and enthusiast alike!
So yea, six shadows — with two dinky little applicators, that I found to be absolutely useless…

PROS
- Super inexpensive
- Convenient
- Pigmentation is really decent
- Easy to create different looks as all of the shades work together and take out guess work
- Great for beginners and budgetista’s
CONS
- The matte shades are very chalky and powdery
- The matte shades aren’t very easy to blend, they seem to dissipate turn to dust
- The applicators in the palette are completely useless and a waste of space
- The packaging is “eh” but for $2.50 can you really complain?
- In order to keep these shadows on securely you ABSOLUTELY need an eyeshadow base, otherwise forget it
OVERALL
The only great thing about them from my own personal point of view is that they have really decent pigmentation. But what good is pigmentation if it can be so easily blown or wiped away? You need an eyeshadow base, period. I used LORAC’s Behind The Scene’s Primer, and they stuck on pretty nicely but they were still kind of hard to blend. When I put the darker shade in the corner, the lighter lid color almost immediately disappeared and I had to do this back and forth thing of packing on each shade…which is why I say they’re chalky/dusty/powdery.
On the flipside, I feel that these are some of the better drugstore eyeshadows I’ve used in a long time. If you have the patience to work with them, you may really enjoy them. I actually like the colors in both palettes, and don’t see myself totally abandoning them, but as of now they’re just okay for me — not the best quality, but definitely not the worst. They’d get higher marks from me if they weren’t so friggin chalky and were easier to blend. The shimmery shades aren’t as chalky, but they’re still a tad on the powdery side.
If you want to try these, they’re very affordable and probably worth it if you’re on an extremely tight budget. Just be aware that you need a good shadow base to help avoid them from flying away into dusty nothingness while blending, especially with the lighter matte shades. If you are used to great quality shadows, I’d skip these.
They’re not terrible, but they aren’t amazing either. But because they’re drugstore eyeshadows, it wouldn’t be fair to compare them to a MUFE or NARS or even MAC eyeshadow. So I give them a rating of…
RATING

Availability: Walgreen’s
*just in case you’re wondering…on my face, all drugstore products — lipstick by Rimmel in “Berry Rose”, blush by Black Radience in “Plum Sorbet”, upper lash-line eyeliner by Physician’s Formula in Black, mascara by L’Oreal Voluminous

I bought almost the whole line of Wet n Wild when Walgreens had 50% last week. It is funny because I did the same look with Vanity this morning. With these eye shadows, I work top to bottom, so I do my highlight first and my lid last. This helped me to blend a little easier because I understand completely. You should try to the single eyeshadows because they are so pretty. My favorite is Penny!!
I had to just go ahead and give this one a C+ rating, after sleeping on it and then putting the gold color on my lid this morning w/ no base, the pigmentation isn’t great w/o a base and a decent brush
Great review. I think I see what you mean with chalkiness.
Yea it’s just really powdery
Woo hoo! You must have known I was going to hit you up on Twitter tomorrow asking about this review because I knew your delivery arrived. LOL. I bought all four palettes (plus one thee lip balms) last week but have yet to crack any open. I will def take your advice on the application so that I can make the most of the palettes. Either way, who can complain about $2.49. Thanks so much for doing this review. No worries, I’ll be sure to let you know when there’s another good sale just in case you over look it. =)
you better NOT tell me about any more sales! u know i’m weak dammit LOL
I think it really depends on the skin tone of the person because these colours don’t come out chalky on me at all. great post!
well, the texture is chalky, regardless of who it goes on. I’ve actually read a ton of reviews on these from diff women of diff skin-tones and they all say its chalky/dusty. but then again, its a $2.50 eyeshadow so I can’t expect a silky texture of an UD or NARS shadow i guess lol
I give this a C- lol. I thought I was the only one to notice how awfully chalky they are, it was a bit irritating and the color in the Vanity palette aren’t all that great. I don’t know but was expecting better from all the raving I’ve heard about them lol…but considering how cheap these were, they’re decent. They get the job done. Another great review. You look great!
yea after sleeping on it last nite, and trying to use this palette this morning, i had to change the grade to a C+. it’s just okay. nothing more, nothing less.
Great review! i wanted to try these because I heard a lot of you tube reviews about the product. After reading your review I think I’ll pass. I already have a lot of colors like that already. Maybe I’ll buy them for my niece who’s just getting into makeup.
yea its great for people who aren’t able to afford mid-higher end products, but for those of us spoiled by great quality…it’s skippable lol
girl.. thank you! you did a great review on these that echoes my sentiments about them. i bought two when they first hit the shelves and have not been able to review them, lol! i mean, i was about to post…. “refer to my review on my 188 palette” pigmented in a swatch, but takes a bunch of work on the eyes. i gave up lol… it gets annoying trying to find the right words to be give a bad review accurately sometimes. *SIGH* you did well!
These colors are really nice, but I’ve given up on Wet and Wild powder products. I can’t deal with the chalkiness, but their lip products are some of my fav. Their matte lipsticks are perfect
LOL!! I totally understand and don’t blame you at all, i doubt i’ll buy their stuff again after this.
wow, i got the same two pallettes and i agree, matte shades are chalky but overall i love these palettes….staying power is really good with a base
they are soo pigmented. i love these things <3
