I launched Accidental Beauty back in April of 2010 and so far it’s been really fun meeting other makeup fiends, beauty enthusiasts and newbies who are just starting out and looking for tips and tricks. I seriously appreciate all of the love and support I’ve gotten so far, you guys mean the world to me. I hope to continue this blog for a very long time because it’s my baby. I may not get to update every single day like I’d want to (work, life, etc.) but I try to put my all into each post because you guys deserve honesty. There is one problem I have though…I have sooo many things to talk about I sometimes don’t even know where to begin!! So much makeup to go over, review, swatch, etc. So many tips and tricks to share. It’s overwhelming, but in a good way.

Introducing the “official” request/feedback thread! I’m hoping that you guys can steer me into a direction that’s comfortable and realistic for all of us. Keep in mind that I can’t promise an update every single day (as much as I’d love to) just because of my harsh work schedule and undeniable need for sleeping in on the weekends. Sadly though, there isn’t enough time in the day.
So my question to you the lurker/reader/frequent commenter…what is it that you’d like to see more of on Accidental Beauty? Don’t be shy, don’t be embarrassed to say. I need your help. Do you want to see more reviews of certain products in a certain price range? Do you want to see more swatches of something in particular? Do you want more FOTD? Do you want more live tutorials? Looks with bright colors or neutrals? Let me know!
ABOUT YOUTUBE TUTORIALS
As far as live makeup tutorials go, trust me, I am this close to buying a camera that works — I’ve been saving up! My current HD video cam, after a year and a half of use, has completely died on me (F*#$!!). The last video I was able to take was of my collection…terrible. I know so many of you want me back on Youtube, and please believe I miss Youtube and being able to talk to my subscribers, but I’m very anal about video quality…and the camera I used wasn’t all that great at picking up true colors, made my vids look ashy, and now it doesn’t even frickin work — frustrating as HELL! Hopefully within the next 2-3 weeks I’ll finally have the camera I’ve been saving up for
I will be returning back to Youtube VERY soon, I promise!
Simply leave your questions, requests (can include future youtube tuts), or 2-cents below and I’ll keep this post open for reference anytime I get stuck on what to cover on this blog

I love your mascara reviews!! Please do more ‘mascara battles’! Thanks so much.
Thanks Mavis, I love doing mascara battles too. I am a total mascara junkie!!
I would love to see more FOTD and as you mentioned, we miss you on YT!
Hey Patrice!! I miss YT too girl, I hope to be back very soon
Definitely keep on doing/do more eyeshadow swatches and tutorials. I still consider myself a newbie so unless the eyeshadow comes in a cute little palette, I have no idea which shadows to use with each other. Also, can you do a product review on the MAC Strobe Cream. Thanx a bunches!
Sure thing hun, thanks for the feedback!! I’ll do a post on how to pair eyeshadows so that you don’t have to rely on palettes
questions:
how did those MUFE aqua creams work out for you, and have you been using them?
WHEN is MACs next fam & friend sale? i saw your video on it from 1 or 2 years ago, and i havent heard anything since!
do you know of this stila one step correct primer? http://www.stilacosmetics.com/product_detail.asp?PMID=783 some GOOD SH*T!!
i liked that “battle of the drugstore brands,” you did with the mascara, keep em coming with more products. a student takin tables at denny’s can’t hit up sephora all the time
MORE TUTS AND GIVEAWAYS PLZ!
other than that, the site is flawless
Hey hun, I need to use my Aqua Creams more. They are fab, so thanks for reminding me about those. Girl I have no idea when the next sale is. They haven’t had one since that video I did!! They need to hurry up lol. I haven’t tried that primer but now you’ve gotten me curious about it. I will definitely focus on more drugstore products
Thanks for the feedback doll
What type of brush would you recommend for applying cream blusher?
Love your site by the way! This site and your YouTube channel has taught me everything I know about applying make-up!
Thanks Resha xx
Hey Lauren, I would recommend a stipple/skunk brush like the MAC 130. I use it for cremes like concealers, creme blush, etc. It leaves a beautifully smooth finish. If you can’t find that brush, Sigma has one similar: http://www.sigmabeauty.com/Sigma_Flat_Top_Synthetic_Kabuki_F_80_p/f80.htm and thanks for the feedback hun, I appreciate it!
I know that you did a review on NYX Glosses but can you do a look using nyx purple rain? Also if you have tried the NARS foundations, can you do a review on those?
OOo that pretty purple, hell yea I will! I love bold lips. I haven’t tried the NARS foundation but i’ve been dying to. I just need to get my butt down to Sephora and figure out which shade i am.
Hey Resha! I enjoy everything but I would love to see more Faces of the Day and Youtube tutorials! You’ve got me hooked on those bright looks so keep em coming!!! =)
Hey Taquana, thanks for the feedback girl. I will definitely get back on those YT tuts when I buy that awesome new camera. I cannot WAIT! In the meantime, I’ll post more FOTD’s
Hi,
Just came across your blog. Great reviews and EOTDs/FOTDs.
It’s impressive for such a young blog!
Keep it up!
Thank you so much Vonvon!!
I love your blog to death!
One thing I need help with is this: At the end of a night/day when I am wearing eyeshawdow and liquid eyeliner on my eyes, I notice that my black liquid eyeliner has lightly smeared itself across my browbone….as if everytime I open my eyes, it rubs off onto my browbone/eyelid. I use a eyeshadow base as well, but…I have no idea why this happens. Could it be because I am wearing drugstore brands? Are my eyes just shaped funny? lol. Just thought I would ask, since you gave a great tip on keeping my lower lashline eyeliner in place!
Hey Liz!!
You might wanna try a faster drying liner — could be drugstore, could be mid/high-end. try a gel liner from either Physicians Formula (drugstore), or one of my personal favorites, Stila Smudgepot. a good liquid liner (drugstore) that will not budge after it dries is Wet-n-Wild’s H20 liquid liner. Girl, I try to remove that stuff and it just does not wanna come off LOL! I gotta break out the oil to get that stuff off. So even after a sweaty nite out, you shouldn’t have to worry about that one too much
Thanks for the tip! I bought a gel eyeliner but haven’t tried it out yet (it seems kind of tricky at first). Will try that as well as some Wet N Wild action. Thanks again, you rock!
absolutely! you can get a really cheap liner brush to use for your gel liner at Target (Sonia Kashuk line) if you don’t have one.
since I am a newbie to makeup I would like to see more basics ( the correct way to apply eyeshadow, blush, etc.)….and how to select the right colors for your skin type.
Would you like step-by-step pics?
I’m a newbie too, and I agree with Jamie. A series of posts on the basics would be great. And, yes, step-by-step pics would be awesome. Also, you may have already done this, but I’d love to see a post about essential makeup brushes (and some inexpensive brands that deliver flawless results).
I love your blog, and have discovered some great products and bargain websites because of it. Ever since I saw your Clarisonic review I’ve been lusting after one. Thankfully, QVC had a Mia set as their Today’s Special Value last weekend. I never would have known about this wonderful product if not for you. Thanks so much!
Hello, new lurker here =) You have a great blog and it’s so fun to read. My request would be about skincare I guess and a few more lipsticks wouldn’t hurt too (I’m such a lip stuff junkie) =). Thank you and have a nice day!
Hey Nina! Thanks for coming out of lurk-mode and giving me your feedback, I appreciate it!
I can do that for you, no problem
I’m a lip product junkie myself *shakes in a corner*
I love your FOTD and I love your use of color. Could you try looks with bright colors that could be work place appropriate (apart from neutrals).
Yes! Definitely, I don’t want people thinking that they HAVE to wear neutrals for work, you can definitely do work appropriate colors, thanks for your feedback!!
You can’t go wrong with a FLIP Mino or HD camera and a cheapo tripod. I say this for simplicity’s sake. I have other cameras, but find myself using my iPhone and the Flip more than anything else because they’re so convenient.
The camera I’ve been saving up for is going to last me a VERY long time (it better)!
I love your blog and can’t wait to see your videos on YT again. I am becoming an experienced makeup person through wonderful people like you, but I need to know what colors work best for crease and blending colors out. I love the bold colors, but always go to Embark to blend everything out, but would love to use more blending colors. I need more FOTDs also. Any haul reviews or videos would be helpful. Anything you want to provide would be appreciated. Thanks!
Hey Wanda, thanks for your support and feedback!! What is your foundation shade so I can tell you some good crease colors, let me know
I can definitely do more FOTD’s..I have so many in mind for just about every occasion. I cant wait to get back on YT either girl *smh*. I hate my video camera with the utmost passion lol. what a POS that thing is..
I just wanted to say that I absolutely love your website! I am not sure how I came across your site, but I am glad that I did. I am 22 and I feel like my 15 and 17 year old sisters know more about make up than I do. Lol. I am still reading up on all of your previous posts and I am confident that I will be up to speed with my younger sisters in no time. Thanks for all of the tips that you have provided and all of the information about the products.
I need HELP LOL! Ok so after reading ALL of your reviews, I went and purchased primer (Smashbox photo light?), & MUF Mat Velvet. The dang make up will NOT go on after using primer. Seriously, it STICKS where the sponge lands (I tried a brush too) on my face & I have to rub like crazy to get it to look halfway decent. Went & exchanged the primer for Bare Essentuals? Same dang thing. 2 different primers (2 different foundations) MUF & Estee Lauder). Do I give up on primers? Are some faces just not made for primer? I loved the fact my face did NOT get greasy all dang day. I’m so sad
Sephora swore it was the primer & it must be right? The EL never did this before (been wearing like 2 yrs now). Order of application was moisturizer, primer, some line/pore correcting stuff in small areas, then foundation, loose powder.
Love love your tutorials. I’m a lame butt & would like to see snap shots of how you apply each color. Did that make any sense? lol I keep tryin the smoky eye and I cannot get it (sigh) Thank you so much, keep up the great job!
Hi Kelli,
Okay, it could be the products or it could be your application technique as to why this isn’t working out for you.
Primers are great for people who have problems keeping their makeup on their face. It’s also great for people who don’t have a smooth canvas at all (rough areas, patchiness, acne, etc). Do you have this problem? Also, what is your skin type? this makes a huge difference. Smashbox is a great primer, but you should really ask yourself if you even NEED it or any other primer.
How much are you using? You should only use a tiny tiny amount of the primer. a quarter size is too much, even a nickel. how are you applying the primer? are you using a different application tool for the foundation? specifically which brushes? and if you’re using sponges, are you rolling the product onto your face? because sponges will soak up foundation if you apply it TO the sponge. u should use sponges just to blend out the foundation and smooth things out.
check the ingredients and see if there’s anything in there that you may be allergic to, or have an adverse reaction to. some people can’t have silicone products on their face at all, so see if that’s the case..
you may benefit from a tinted primer, ever tried those? and if its all Smashbox, maybe you can try their lighter primer, I think they have two formulas — the regular and an even lighter one.
Dang I didn’t know you responded thank you so much!
Ok to answer your questions: Yes my make up wears off FAST & I have gotten very oily the last year or so. I was applying probably a nickel then went down to just like a pea size. The Prime Time made me a grease bucket, exchanged for Smashbox regular (1 pump apply with my fingertips, I know I know I haven’t quite mastered the brush). I also found out when I went back, the girl at Sephora sold me two heavy foundations (I requested med-full coverage liquid & a powder for touch up). A guy ended up helping me this last time. I got MUF HD, Smashbox Primer, MUF setting powder. The foundation goes on like a dream. The setting powder…hmmm I love the way it covers my pores but its, odd. I’m probably just not used to it!
Thank you so much! I look forward to your reviews. I am in LOVE with Falsies mascara. Keep up the good work!
Hey girl!! i totally love your website!! I’ve stumbled upon your blog a week ago and its already on my Top 5!!!
Anyways I know you’re looking for a new camcorder but what camera do you use for your FOTDs, swatches, reviews and etc. ? Because your photos come out beautifully!!! Let a a sista know lolz!!!
Thanks girl!! That means a lot
I currently use a Canon A620 Powershot (a pretty old model, but one of the best point-n-shoot cams they ever made and now costs more than it did when it came out). It’s got 7.1mp and it’s a fabulous camera for pictures. Love it!
I would like to know how you match up eyeshadow shades for smokey eyes. Like if I wanted to create a look with 3 colors, is staying in the same color family always best or do you venture outside whatever color you’re using on your lid?
Also, wanted to know how to make my eyes pop from behind my glasses. I feel like I always have to wear a lot of eyeshadow for it to be seen from behind my glasses… or to get the correct look I should say.
Thanks. Love the site. I usually lurk or ask you ?’s on the twittuh but I figured this was a good way to ask a couple questions.
Keep up the good work.
Hey Mignon, thanks for speaking up!! I will definitely do looks for glasses wearers (i’m one too), and I can show you how to match up colors for smokey eyes, or any other look.
Hi Resha!
You’re doing a great job with the blog.
1. Can you take photos of your eyeshadow application in action? (until you get back to YT) It would be helpful to someone like me who is trying to get her technique down pat.
2. More NYX! Love them and would love to see more looks with the brand.
3. Would love to see more looks to bring out your eyes when wearing eyeglasses.
4. I also enjoy when you do non-make up beauty reviews (the hair removal cream one was VERY informative!)
Thanks for all you do!
numbah 5
Hey Sweety,
1. Yup
2. Of course, and stay tuned because I’m gonna have a big NYX sale on my blog very soon. i gotta figure out how i’m gonna do it, but it’s in the making.
3. I can do this because I wear glasses and I know exactly what you mean. So that’s no problem
4. I’m on it!
Thanks for your feedback, very helpful and I appreciate you!
hey!
, this is my favorite makeup blog. i would love to see you do a post swatching light pink glosses & lipsticks. you and i are about the same tone, so whatever works on you should probably work on me. i would also like to see more neutral looks, being that im starting school soon, and i don’t wanna walk in there looking like im ready for the club. lol
LOL!! gotcha
thanks for the feedback babe!
hello chica! love love love your site. please talk more about different skin complexion. i’m a newbie and i am a chocolate sista but i have a hard time finding makeup that looks good with my complexion. please please help me. i have children so i need something easy and cute. keep up the fabulous work!
Absolutely
Do you currently wear foundation?
I have huge lips so I never, ever wear lipstick because I think it makes my mouth look like a flashing neon sign. Any advice on how to make colorful lipsticks and glosses look good on full lips?
about how full are your lips? are they as full as Jill Marie Jones? First off, don’t be afraid of showing off your big juicy pout. So many women do things to their lips to achieve what you have naturally. But, if you wanna tone down any color, take a liner close to your natural skin tone, and line your lips then blend until there’s no harsh line, and dab the lip color of your choice onto your lips. show off those lips!!
ok your tip on how to make ‘impassioned’ work was GREAT. now i need help on something else. i bought “bing” mattene lipstick from the cult of cherry collection when i really wanted cult of cherry but it was sold out and the white girl told me to get bing b/c she had it on and she looked cute. ANYWAY, it’s just too dark and outside of halloween, i dont think it looks cute on me. any tips?
You wanna lighten it up? try using a pale pink color and lightly dabbing it on top of the bing, blend and see how it looks, add more/less if you want. but bing is bomb alone, i shoulda got my hands on it!
Firstly I love you on here (and twitter) I think that you do a great job. For a makeup newbie like me it’s wonderful to see (especially on a woman of color) all the wonderful things that makeup can do! I’m very into eyes, and lips. I think if I actually knew HOW to do a full face I’d be more prone to try it out, so I will be excited when you get your new camera so i can see you go from bare(faced) to BEAT!
Keep up the good work and YAY for me not being a lurker anymore and actually commenting!!!
Hey Alicia, thanks for your feedback
I can definitely do a breakdown on how to do a full face. Would you prefer a video or step by step pics? maybe i should do both..
Both would be awesome, BUT if i had to choose just one i will pick video…hitting pause is the same thing lol
gotcha
you’ve bought a ton of stuff from me on Specktra, and I’m just finding out you have a blog, so I’ve been checkin it out and i love what you’ve been posting, there aren’t too many blogs by WOC who know what they’re talking about (if there are, you have to LOOK for them), and it’s good to see someone who looks like me reviewing products I am most likely to want. So I appreciate that! I see you use lipsticks and very pigmented glosses, and that’s not something I’m into but would like to start, so more posts about the right lipstick shades WOC should wear would be awesome too! Keep it up girl!
Hey Ashley!!! thanks for stopping by giving me your feedback, I really appreciate it. Girl, dont make me log into specktra to see if u have new stuff on sale LMAO!
HI im currently following your page and i was wonderng if u could do some more swatches i follow you on youtube as well and i was wodering if you could do qa review on your ben nye lumiere pallete with swatches cause the video did not show the quality and vibrancy and textures of those eyeshadows and the colors as well
I can review the Ben Nye palette on my site, sure. Thanks for your feedback!
And i am also interested in nyx products i was wondering if you could do some swatches and more reviews on the brand
Do you think you could do more lipstick/lipglosses/blushes suitable for fall? I love bright summer colors so I’m finding it super hard to even find any “fall like” colors appealing at this point. lol
absolutely! i’m starting to go towards those colors now since it’s gonna be Fall pretty soon
Hi Resha! I must say that your blog is really refreshing and I like the way you mix it up! Also would you be updating your pigments post ( I actually saved it as a reference guide) Love your work!
Hi Resha!
I am new to the makeup game and have found ur reviews and FOTD’s to be very informative.
I FINALLY got the smokey eye look down and I’ve recently acquired the NAKED palette, which I LOVE!!!
I am soooo happy to see a brown girl who is holding it down for US…
Keep up the GREAT work!!!
I think you are one the best bloggers I read. You have high class taste, but I can still buy some of the stuff you like. I want those R&R blushes so bad, but even the $20/piece price is killing me. On the other hand, you always throw in a NYX review to balance it out. Lol.
My feedback to you is to do more wearable colors for African American (& other women of color), that we have been told that we are not supposed to wear. I feel like that’s your real niche. I am actually thinking about wearing red lipstick.
Thank you for sharing your obsession & being honest. If you like nail polish you could post on that.
