Up next? Ten NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow pencils! These little cult favorites have made their way into sooo many makeup collections, it’s not even funny. Their main use is for eyeshadow or lining, but most people use them as an eyeshadow base.
They’re creamy, smooth and offer excellent pigmentation. Each jumbo pencil costs around $4 and lasts quite a while. They are very opaque, none of the shades I have are sheer at all. You can apply them sheer, but that would require you to literally dab it on your eyelid and spread it around with your finger.
There are about 28 colors available, however I only have ten of these little babies. For those of you wondering what some of the colors look like, I present you with some swatches

NYX says that they’re anti-crease, but that’s up for debate. Whenever I use them as an eyeshadow base, I always sheer it out and that has always helped me with creasing. On the flipside, these products contain mineral oils that help prevent the eyelids from drying out, which also means they wont turn into a silky powder’like texture (like an actual eyeshadow) — add two oily eyelids and BOOM — you’ve got creasing!

I have two–Milk and the shimmery cream colored one. They crease on me unfortunately, but I use them to line my waterline.
have u tried using them with a primer underneath?

How do you compare them to MAC Greasepaint sticks?
I have three–Milk (like it), Black Bean (a melty mess), and French Fries (bronzey–haven’t used it too much)
they’re nothing like greasepaints. greasepaints are designed to NOT budge once you apply/blend them out. they’re more of a paint’like product whereas NYX Jumbo’s are a mineral-oil based product bound to crease on you at some point.
i have definitely experienced creasing but not every time i used ‘rust’ or ‘milk’ (the only two i own).
NYX actually makes a white shadow base now, i need to review it. i have used it twice and was pleased w/ the results, shockingly!

I love these things! i have 14 of them and don’t experience creasing, I find that if you dab it on your eyelid and spread it with your finger it won’t crease (that’s if you’re using it as a base). but it will crease if you spread it on your eyelid with the pencill and spread….it’s too much and therefore it creases…i hope this helps anybody who has experienced creasing becuz these babies are the TRUTH!

LOL I just bought Milk the other day. Great post and tips…now I know what to look forward to.
I’ve always wanted to buy these pencils but they don’t sell NYX products in the UK and the CherryCulture’s prices for Intl shipping are extortionate! However i’ve heard really good things about the jumbo pen, especially the ‘Milk’! I hope to try them out one day
dang that sucks! but at the END of the day, you’re not missing out. they’re great to have but definitely NOT a must have.
I live in the UK and buy mine from Love-Makeup.co.uk, they sell a range of NYX cosmetics including the jumbos for £2.50 each.
At the moment I have 8 of these, haven’t had any problems with creasing but I don’t have particularly oily eyelids.
I couldn’t even use them as a base, I’m cursed. -sigh-
i have super oily lids too! have you tried sheering them out a little and using a primer too. I use too faced shadow insurance first, let that dry, then apply a fat line to my lash line and use a synthetic brush (like a concealer brush usually) to blend it up. then I’ll set it with a powder, bam no creasing!
i have black bean and usually use it as a base on a smokey look. it’s also the blackest black I own, and it’s GREAT on the waterline (once set with a powder of course).
LOL try a primer first, then a tiny speck of this to see if it works better. thats the only way i can wear it
Wow, they are a lot more pigmented than I thought they would be, I knew they were pigment rich but never expected them to be this good.

yea they’re very pigmented and very creamy (which is why they crease like a beast lol)
unless i sheer these out, these have ALWAYS creased on me. my lids aren’t particularly oily either. i tried it with an e/s base and without…same thing. i was bummed because they have such great colors and better texture than the MAC shadesticks!
sorry to hear that! but also keep in mind that shadesticks and jumbo pencils have totally different ingredients for their uses. the jumbo’s will slide all around your lids, the shadesticks are a bit dryer because they’re designed to dry to your lid and last longer
Wow! The pigmentation is amazing! But, does anyone else think it’s really weird that “Lemon” is green?
LMAO! i’ve always thought that, i don’t get it at ALL. there’s nothing green about a lemon except the tree it’s on LOL
You have got to check out the new colors they came out with. I ordered the rock mountain green and the electric blue and they are fab.
