Look up in the sky! It’s a bird! No, wait…it’s…and invisible plane…..with a pretty hot chick…sitting…in…an invisible…plane?? Yes, kids. It’s Wonder Woman, and she has burst her way onto the cosmetic scene with her very own super-sized collection by MAC. We (makeup fiends) weren’t expecting this baby to drop until Feb. 10, but we got it almost two weeks early. I placed my order that morning and got it the very next day. Overnight shipping is a beast!
MAC released their much talked about Wonder Woman collection, and the first thing you’ll notice (if you’re a MAC fan) is that the prices and product size have gone way up but just for this collection. The MSF’s ($35 ea.), blushes ($24 ea.), and lipglasses ($20 ea.) are all notably larger, and combined with licensing, you’re paying a bit more for everything. Same deal with Venomous Villains sans larger size. The lipstick’s in this collection ($15 ea.) are regular size.
I didn’t even attempt to buy the eyeshadow quads, despite having my eye on Valiant. When I saw swatches of these shadows on various blogs who received the collection early, I was less than thrilled. The pigmentation wasn’t worth $40 in my opinion, and I already have similar colors of pretty much every eyeshadow they’re selling in this collection. I didn’t buy any of the pigments or glitters, liners, or mascaras…I just stuck with the following:
- Amazon Princess blush duo – bright yellow pink/deep blue pink with gold pearl
- Mighty Aphrodite blush duo – warm peach coral with gold pearl/bright coral pink with gold pearl
- Golden Lariat MSF – Left: True coral with fine gold shimmer/Center: Soft suntanned bronze/Right: Soft gold with fine shimmer.
- Pink Power MSF – Left: Peachy rose with pink shimmer/Center: Soft rosy bronze/Right: Soft shell pink with fine shimmer.
- Wonder Woman lipglass – bright red with soft pearl
- Athena’s Kiss lipglass – bright blue fuchsia
- Secret Identity lipglass – midtone copper with soft pearl
- Marquise d’ lipstick – sandy cream peach (lustre)
- Spitfire lipstick – bright creamy magenta (satin)
- Heroine lipstick – brown bronze (frost)

OVERALL THOUGHTS
To be honest, nothing in this collection (product-wise) is a must-have, in my humble opinion. I think that if you’re a serious collector or a die-hard Wonder Woman fan, you’ll wanna grab a few items if not all. Or, if you don’t have any colors like these, you may wanna pick up a few things. The colors are nice, but they’re so similar to shades you may already own — I know I may not have 100% exact dupes, but I have a few “close enough’s”. I’m on the fence because I really like the collection, but at the same time I don’t feel many of the products are even worth pouring out your hard-earned money. I also have an issue with the way the new mega-size lipglasses are packaged. You literally have to yank the wand out because it gets super tight when pulling thru the stopper — causing you to actually fling a nice amount of gloss somewhere other than your lips. I’ve lost a few traces of lipglass on my desk when doing swatches. You have to pull the wand very slowly and firmly so that it doesn’t splash around, in order to preserve your product that you paid $6 extra for.
I did notice that the new blushes have a much silkier formula, and aren’t nearly as chalky as some MAC blushes can be. They both leave a very subtle yet beautiful sheen on the cheeks. Mighty Aphrodite is really gorgeous, probably my favorite item from the entire collection. I can’t wait to rock that in the summer. The lipglass formula’s feel smoother to me, but this could be because of how they’re applied — creating a smoother line across your lips. Golden Lariat is beautiful in theory, but it didn’t give me a ton of color. It’s still very pretty though, I got a nice glow from it. Pink Power would look great on lighter skin-tones, or as a simple highlight on darker, cooler skin-tones. I didn’t get much color from that one either. I already had Russian Red (who doesn’t??), so I wasn’t gonna spend $15 just for comic book packaging lol.
I like the stuff, but I definitely don’t love it. I think this is a collection everyone should try out in person first if they can. A lot of things I was excited for, only turned out to be “just okay” for me. I wouldn’t personally rush out to get anything from this collection unless I just wanted to spend some money or was a huge Wonder Woman fan. MAC accidentally sent me an extra Athena’s Kiss lipglass, so I’ll be giving it away here soon
-Stay beautiful

I agree, I was not really impressed with the collection. I do like the colored mascara though. My friend works for MAC and we had a nice discussion about this collection. I enjoyed the Disney collection more!
yes! MAC Venomous Villains is worlds better than this one.
I am totally unimpressed with this collection…there is one quad that I want and maybe a blush…..hoping to get those in gratis…and maybe Spitfire lipstick…but the packaging looks like kids toys …..I thought I would love it but to be honest I don’t….just blahhh
Great swatches !!!
girl i feel you, but even after seeing the quad swatches on other blogs i was like ehhhhh, i did want Valiant but i have a lot of similar colors so screw it. esp for $40 lol. i thought i would love it too, i was pretty excited for it, but it just…aint really all that for the price hike.
Thank you soo much for this post. I havent been this excited about a collection.
no problem
Thanks for the swatches lady
. Can y tell me, does the gold lariat compact have a mirror? I love the packaging but haven’t seen if it does or not.
On a side note, that canon is a beast! We can see almost too much detail, lol j/k. So crisp!
Hey Ronnie, there isn’t a mirror on the inside of the MSF compacts, but the blushes have a mirror
I like maybe 20% of the collection. Money saved. Curious about the Spitfire and Secret Identity. I already ordered Mighty Aphrodite. Thanks for swatching
no problem! i plan on posting lip swatches as soon as i am able to get home in time and still have some sunlight for more accurate swatches.
Your swatches are pure perfection!!!! I uploaded a video with footage/haul from the party…check it out if you get a minute!
I wish it was better.,
I may purchase one or two items just to have in my collection.
yea me too. im nowhere near as excited about it after the fact, and feel even venomous villains was a more solid collection. i still love that one. this one is just okay. i feel that for the price hike, MAC could’ve done something a little more special with the colors.
How would you say Athena’s Kiss compares to NYX’s African Queen? When I saw it, I immediately thought it looked like African Queen or another NYX gloss I have called Fusion
African Queen is waaaay more fuschia. Athena is pinker and AQ has more purple/blue in it. Both are very gorgeous though. i don’t think you need Athena if you already have African Queen (esp for the price)
Thanks for the swatches, and your honest opinion Resha. It helps to make a decision before you go online, and just buy. I guess I’ll just wait until I have to work next weekend, and check the stuff out at the counter in person.
yea definitely check everything out first. you may love it, you may like it, you may hate it. i dont hate any of it, but i personally don’t feel it’s “OMG I MUST HAVE THIS NOW”, especially for the price hike.
this was my first MAC purchase (i know, i know). I bought the WW lipglass and the pink eyeshadow quad.
then feeling in a girlie mood, went to sephora and ended up with 2 more lip glosses, which aren’t as sticky! so i might exchange the MAC-WW for something else.
thanks for the review!
i didn’t pick up anything from this collection. I agree with you most of the dupable.
Great swatches though.
Thanks for the swatches! I’m scheduled to attend the Wonder Woman event next weekend, and I definitely plan to pick up the Amazon Princess duo. So pretty! I really want Athena’s Kiss, but I’ve read more than one complaint about the packaging. I already have Hot House from the Venomous Villains collection, as well as NYX’s African Queen. I may just pick up Spitfire, instead. Looks like a nice color.
can’t wait for the lip swatches.
Mmmmm looks aiiiight! I wanted to love it, but I’m not overly impressed.
I got both msf’s, mighty aphrodite, marquise d and spitfire. Honestly the msf’s are not that great. They look nice when swatched but loses color when applied to the face. Golden lariat can make you look too orange if you’re not careful and I’m nc50. I no longer have the box for golden lariat so unfortunately I gotta keep it but pink power msf and marquise d are going back. I love mighty aphrodite blush tho. So pretty and the only thing worth having from this collection.
What do you think about the supersized lipglosses? I saw the size on temptalia and was shocked! I can’t even get through a regular sized one…
wow what a camera you have! great review
i love ur blog!!!!
ok, now that that’s out, was wondering, in ur opinion,
if there were any mac dupes (or dupes period) for the green color diana undercover in the valiant quad
I am like u, unimpressed about the quads but i almost wanna spend 40 for THIS COLOR ONLY! sad, i know
I still think I want to see Spitfire lipstick first before I totally make up my mind although it’s the only thing I’m interested in trying out. Not even Heroine as I already have a Fetish and a Shag that I’ve long, long forgotten about.
Thanks so much for posting these, I am off to place my order now!
great review and I agree I didn’t see any colors I just had to have. But the packaging is very cute
Hi Resha. Just started following your blog. I already miss you on the YT. As for the collection. Well unfortunately not much really stands out for me apart from the Golden lariat MSF and like yourself the mighty aphrodite blush duo. Wonder woman is of my era to so would have been an ideal collection to invest in. But I’m slowly catching on to the MAC marketing strategy.
Loving the swatches.
I’m still on the fence about this collection, I’ve seen the products but the over sized thing seems like such a gimmick, especially since it makes the gloss & liner unwieldy.
I might end up with the blushes.. and once I see those lip swatches.. LOL.
I was excited for this collection, that is until I started seeing swatches…then it was just “meh.” A lot of MAC collections have been that way for me. I cant remember the last time I bought something from MAC.
Even your swatches cant make it look impressive!
I was going to get one of the lippies, but changed my mind in the end. The packaging really turned me off and the fact that the pricing was higher…”meh.”
Great swatches though!
girl i feel you!
Was the small side on your Mighty Aphrodite and Amazon Princess blush hard to swatch?
I asked because when I purchased my blushes, I went to swatch the smaller side and could not get any product to rub off on my finger. It was like the color was sealed.
The larger side had a ton of pigment, but not the smaller side. Your swatches of the small side look more pigmented.
yes!! actually, my Golden Lariat was also very hard to swatch. i had to scrape it jsut to get it going SMH
Hi, love your blog! Just wanted to say that I agree this collection was disappointing…but Athena lipglass imo totally rocks! I love the super-sized tube, it is a bit hard to pull out but if you do it slowly it’s fine..and lot’s of product is always a plus! The colour on is just gorgeous and your photo really shows how beautiful it is, seeing how you do love bright pink lips, I’m surprised you didn’t think it was more special. I do have a few glosses that are similar in shade but for some reason this one just looks amazing on. My fiance loves it..(and he hates when he goes to kiss me and I even just have balm on!) He thinks it’s very “sexy.” I also bought Spitfire and I haven’t really had a chance to really use it other than a quick test but o far I love it. Sorry for the LONG post! PS…my fiance said you were stunning and gorgeous and I agree! –Also enjoy your R & R reviews….xXx…Sorrow
I agree with you, it really is not anything different enough to warrant getting it. i did like some of the lipglass, in particular Athena’s Kiss but I already have a few similar shades so I didn’t bother getting it.
