The Accidental Beauty

It’s a gross yet beautiful rainy Saturday. Gross if you have to be in the rain — beautiful if you don’t! I’m in the house cleaning, working, and trying to fight thru this fog of sleepiness that’s smothering me like gravy on biscuits. I am so exhausted, for no apparent reason. Maybe it’s the rain, maybe it’s the 5 hours of sleep I’m running on — who knows. Anyhoo, I wanted to show you guys what these uber-awesome Kat Von D palettes look like because they’re absolute love. The fact you get eight highly-pigmented shadows for $34 in one artsy-fartsy palette is nothing short of amazing.

Kat Von D is a beautiful tattooed modern day pin-up doll with her own reality TV show and tattoo shop called High Voltage Tattoo in Los Angeles, California. She basically took her love for makeup and teamed up with Sephora to bring us six beautifully stenciled pieces of art that house eight substantial eyeshadows a piece. So far, I only have five of the six. I’ve been meaning to buy hew newest one, Memento Mori for a while but I still haven’t gotten around to it. I need to hurry up before it’s gone. The purpose of these palettes is to make it easier to give you smokey-eye variations, and with eight eyeshadows you’ve got plenty of combination’s to come up with.

PROS

• Highly-pigmented, vibrant and bold colors
• Smooth texture, easy to blend
• Adorable packaging
• Incredible price
• Plenty of product in each palette
• Each palette comes with two double-ended mini brushes

CONS

• The cream shadows harden and become a bitch to use

OVERALL

To elaborate on my one con: Three of the palettes I have here each have one cream shadow, and to be honest, it’s my least favorite part of those palettes. While the cream shadows are really nice colors, the fact they dry out faster than a 1987 jheri curl in Phoenix, Arizona is just….wack. Unless you use these palettes every single day, your cream shadow will harden up and become super hard to use. You can tell I struggled to swatch Brass Knuckles from the Gypsy palette. That’s honestly my only complaint about these palettes, but the rest of the shadows are normal powder shadows that maintain their smooth, buttery texture and are a dream to blend.

You may also notice that a few of the shadows show up in each palette. Lucifer (matte charcoal black) is in every palette I have here (which is also why I only swatched it once), but it’s not in Memento Mori. Leather (matte dark brown) and Tequila (metallic cornsilk shimmer) also appear a couple times in these palettes. Some people may find that to be annoying, I don’t really. I think that those colors compliment the other 6 or 7 shadows, so it works well. Also, if you only choose to buy just one palette, you won’t be missing out on the basic black — so think of it that way. Although all palettes come with two double-ended mini brushes inside, I don’t use them. I use my full-size brushes but I won’t throw the mini’s away just in case I wanna travel and take those with me. They actually pick up the product pretty well!

At the end of the day, $34 for eight eyeshadows is just…unheard of — especially when the quality is so great. If you haven’t tried one of these palettes, I think you should
