I see you. You’re outside standing under a 900-thread count blanket of heat and humidity. You’re not happy. Your makeup is sliding off your face. You’re sweating like a hooker in church. You’re greasier than Jermaine Jackson in 1997. It’s hotter than the rubber on the bottom of Precious’s shoes after she stole that bucket of chicken and ran off to class like a bat out of hell. Miserable, huh? I hate this time of year! The east coast humidity is just…so ridiculous and unfair. You can stand outside and literally do nothing but stand…and start pouring buckets of sweat. That ain’t right! I get so greasy and oily this time of year, so I needed something to soak up that oil like a Popeye’s biscuit…and I found it!!!
Urban Decay (one of my top five favorite cosmetic brands ever in life) have created a to-go fix for you oily girls called the De-Slick Mattifying Powder ($30). What is it? It’s a wonderful and convenient way to touch up your oily, yet beautiful face without having to worry about messy loose powders. Well, that’s my explanation…here’s Urban Decays:
One of our Co-Founder’s favorite products! This shine-stopping pressed powder blots oil and keeps shine at bay. Try it on naked skin (if you run into the hot guy at the gym), or over foundation (for touch-ups on the dance floor without destroying your makeup). Because the formula contains super lightweight, oil-absorbing rice powder, you won’t feel the powder, but you’ll see the shine-free results. The lavender shade applies invisibly and works on every skin tone, from dark chocolate to palest porcelain.
Keep De-Slick in your bag at all times! The gorgeous, transparent purple compact seems to glow from within, featuring Urban Decay embellishments of skulls, flourishes and flowers. Pop it open to reveal a mirror and handy application puff.
Oh, and it’s vegan too!
You guys know all about that infamous Make Up For Ever HD Powder? Well this stuff is like a pressed version of that you can take with you on the go. It’s virtually invisible and doesn’t leave an ashy white cast (unless you OD and use too much). It comes with a beautiful puff and all you have to do is dab the product onto the puff and blot your face — BOOM! That’s basically it. Since I bought this, I haven’t been without it. It lives in my purse and goes wherever I go.

This is my greasy face after a hot day in low lighting. Ew.

This is my non-greasy face after applying the UD De-Slick powder!

Once again, this is my greasy face after a hot day in low lighting. Barf.

I’m not greasy anymore!!

This stuff is awesome!

YAAAAS!! (shoutout to my chipped nail polish LOL!)
The actual product lasts a very long time for me. I apply my makeup around 7′ish every morning before work, and I get home around 6pm, and guess what? My face is still going strong. Makeup is still on, shininess is on mute. Why? Because this stuff is amazing. I don’t have the oiliest skin in the world, but I do get slick and shiny. This stuff isn’t an oily skin cure — but it’s definitely a quick fix that, depending on how oily you are, can last a handful of hours. I really think you should try it if you’re looking for something clean and easy to soak up your oil. Plus, it’s pretty lol.
PROS
- Gorgeous packaging
- You get a crapload of product for the price
- Comes with puff and mirror
- Reduces shine immensely
- Can be applied on top of makeup or to a bare face
- Doesn’t leave a ghost-like ashy white cast to your face
- Because it’s invisible, it works on any skin-tone
- A little goes a LONG way
- It kinda has some airbrushing qualities to it, when you put it on it smooths tiny imperfections
- Convenient
- Doesn’t clog pores
- Doesn’t irritate the skin
- Doesn’t “build up” or get cakey like a regular blot powder would
CONS
- Has a weird, slight medicinal scent to it but it doesn’t transfer to your face
- The purple side of the puff inside the compact sticks to the mirror and ends up smudging it
OVERALL
I’m extremely happy with this product. For $30, you’re getting a ton of de-slick powder and it should last you a very long time. You do not need to scrap the puff over this and pick up a ton of powder, just lightly dab it and then blot your face — it’s that simple. If you’re looking to decrease the grease, I suggest you try this wonderful stuff here. This allows you to control your oil without packing on more and more makeup. Fabulous!

How does it compare to MAC Blot Powder?
I honestly dont think it does. The MAC blot powder, the more you put on, the cakier it gets. This is so super fine and light as air, that it doesn’t “build up” on you. If you’re looking to reduce shine and blot oil w/o just putting on MORE makeup, this stuff is great. I still love my blot powder, but because i can use it as a light coverage foundation, i think they’re very different.
I live in hot ass Florida and heave realized that lately my skin is super oily. I guess it’s due to it getting hotter because I haven’t really changed anything in my routine. I was checking this product out the other day – just might get it.
yea my skin pumps out way more oil than normal during these disgustingly hot summer days. i never leave home w/o this stuff, its amazing.
Why are you calling Make Up For Ever HD Powder infamous?
Any problem with it?
no problem with it on my end, but it did stir up a huge controversy at one point because people didnt know much about silica and they thought if they used it they’d inhale it and get cancer lol. it was totally blown waaay outta proportion. people were freaking out, it was really ridiculous.
Thank you soooo much for this review. My skin is the same way and Im on the east coast too, so I feel your pain! Im usually a grease ball by 12 noon everyday! LOL Do you think I can find this on ebay? *wink wink
you might be able to, but i’m not sure…
This stuff looks and sounds great. I have this problem of my face looking maadd greasy after a few minutes in the humidity. Thanks for the info!!!
LOL no prob!
you can flip the puff the other way around so that the purple end doesn’t stick, and in fact for sanitary reasons you should anyway b/c the oils and bacteria will transfer to your powder if you have it with the puff side down, but thats just a suggestion!!
great idea! thanks!
I will have too burchase this product soon(:
I ahve very oily skin, && this could help out a lot(:
yea i have super oily skin in the summer and this instantly takes care of it. i absolutely love it.
Ohh I really need to try this out! This humidity is killer in Texas too! And my oily skin is no pretty sight….thanks for the review!
its amazing, i can’t recommend it enough, seriously.
Have you applied with a brush? If so, what type of brush do you use?
I have actually, i’ve used a kabuki, and my MAC 138. any brush works fine as long as you use a light hand.
Dang I have to get this now! J/K $30 is steep ,but Nordstroms is having their anniversary sale and my friend gets a discount so…..LOL
its $30 but i swear this will last you all year. its a TON of product stuffed into this compact, and considering u only use light dabs of it, i really dont see anyone hitting pan for at least a year.
Omg I can’t take you! The intro part lmfaooo…you’re insane & I love. I’m def going to check the product out because I have oily skin & summer is the enemy.
LOL!! it takes away shine instantly!
Thank you so much for suggesting this. I am buying some of those pigments that you suggested, so now, I am getting this also. Thank you!
no prob!!
Hey what else were you wearing on your face?
i was wearing bare minerals foundation in tan, facefront bronzer on my cheeks and MAC So Scarlet lipstick..which had all pretty much melted off due to the humidity lol
Would it make sense to use this if you don’t wear foundation or powder at all? Just using on bare skin?
Also I don’t know what your shade is but would it work on a NC 50ish person too?
Hi Ginna
This stuff works on EVERY skin tone because its translucent. Doesn’t matter how light or dark you are, its fine. if you find that you’re “seeing” it on your skin, use a fluffy brush instead of the puff (which concentrates the product more). You could absolutely wear this on bare skin. I use it in every way possible. Hope that helps!
Ok, **dead** at Precious running with the bucket of chicken! LMAO I will definitely have to try this because I bought the De-Slick Spray and I am not impressed with it at all!
LOL! really? i was itching to try it…i still might…but yea, the powder is on point
Just wanted to say I purchased this because of the review!
I’ve needed something to help me with my shine for awhile – it’s working pretty well so far!
Fabulous! Girl I accidentally left my deslick at the job yesterday, and was in the car shiny as a mug! i so needed it, felt terrible w/o it.
It comes in a tube as well!
I’ve been wanting to try this– think you just gave me that final push to go check it out!! Thanks for the before and after pics. You can see that this stuff delivers!
UD is in my top 5 beauty brands too, and I love that they keep producing products that I’m dying to try out. Have you tried their new setting sprays? All nighter looks like it’ll be good for a couple of weddings I have coming up, so my face doesn’t melt off, lol.
I’m gonna have to try this. These disgustingly hot Alabama summers are doing no favors for my makeup! smh
Thanks for the review!
