I’ve been meaning to do this review for a while. Gather ’round boys and girls…it’s time to talk about Revlon Colorstay Liquid Lipstick. I bought this about three months ago after being drawn in by the sultry bold red color. I saw the price tag and was like “Ehh…I dunno about that..”, but I went ahead and bought it anyway.
The color I purchased is called Top Tomato. It’s actually a very beautiful and sexy shade of red with tiny little specks of gold, yet it somehow seems to tilt blue. I can’t really describe it, but its very pretty.

Alright, so let’s get down to the brass tax here…
I’m truly on the fence with this product. On one hand, its gorgeous…and on the other, it’s annoying. So here are my pros and cons for this particular shade, as its the only one I’ve tried so far.
PROS
- Beautiful rich color, very sultry
- Long lasting formula
- Moderately opaque
- Generous amount of product for the price (ranging from $8 to $11, depending on your location)
however…
CONS
- Sticky, almost fuzzy and uncomfortable formula
- Very drying…without a gloss on top
- The packaging isn’t that exciting. When you pull the wand out, it literally sounds like a queef
- It’s also messy. The stopper could have been made better to prevent the product from being so messy around the opening of the tube. I don’t know if I got a bad tube or not…
- It smells like a semi-old mascara
OVERALL
To elaborate, the stickiness is uncomfortable but it’s also what allows this product to last as long as it does. I cannot wear it alone because it dries the crap out of my lips — even when I have a balm underneath. With a gloss on top, it’s really not that bad. It has those typical staining qualities, the drying, the annoyance, etc. They say you don’t need a top coat, but I say you do. At the end of the day, this isn’t a terrible product, but its definitely lacking something — called moisture. You should absolutely wear a gloss on top because then most of the cons go away. I actually quite like it when worn with a gloss, I can tolerate it. But without — no ma’am. It definitely lasts and is long wearing…and again, the color is really gorgeous…I just wish it wasn’t so sticky/fuzzy/drying..
I paid $10 for it at my local CVS but I’ve seen it at Walmart for around $8.50 or so…it depends. So honestly, I don’t like it but then again I do. You ever feel that way about a product? It’s like, there are things about it you hate and things about it you love but you can’t quite put your finger on it.
I think that if you’re a lip junkie and curious about this product, you should try it. You may hate it, you may love it. I’m somewhere in between all that. If you don’t like it, return it. I don’t like it when worn alone, but I do like it with a clear gloss on top. And for that, I give it a…

yea no. im not a fan if it smells like old mascara and it’s mess. the queef comment was just funny. they need to go back and try again b/c it is a good price for the amount of product you’re getting.
Yea the scent smells kinda factory’ish. They coulda threw some vanilla or cherry in there or somethin, damn. I really wanted to LOVE it, but i don’t. its so damn drying. better with a gloss, but i still wouldn’t buy it again.
those long wear lipgloss/lipsticks are always so drying

yup! they should just give it up because they’re so uncomfortable to wear.
I had a pretty horrible experience with that stuff. It really dried out my lips to the point that after one use, for a week, I had peeling issues, and that was with lip balm underneath. Also, whenever I tried to put lipgloss on top of it it would become splotchy. Yeah, no good lol.
I’m not even surprised. These lip staining products just suck all around. They’re so harsh on the lips!
I had wanted to try this… Thanks for the heads up. If I do purchase at least I will be prepared!
No problem Mandy!
Revlon products just stink. Period. Colorstay smells like rubber and the formula breaks me out.
you hit the nail on the head. rubber!
Oh I do love the color..but I am so scared! Lol You have been making me want to try some color..I am usually a neutral lip girl…thx for the honest review!
Yes, the color is sooo gorgeous. i really really love it. But the formula sucks so bad that it just…its frustrating. damn you Revlon!!
LOL @ queef!
Still, I’ve tried these glosses and I usually love Revlon products, but this one dried and chapped my lips extremely! Such as waste of money, I could’ve bought a V8 splash!
LMAO!
Revlon Colorstay is THE WORST!!! I will never buy this junk again! Yeah, it STAYS as the name implies=STAYS on your lips feeling like sticky, melted. peeling plastic all day long. AND you have to keep applying greasy lipgloss or else the colored junk will get sticky, uneven and dry out your lips. This is really bad if you already have some fine lines. The worst part is trying to take it off. When I wiped it off the tissue STUCK to my lips. Makeup remover had no effect. I had to scrub it off with a wet washcloth and that still didn’t remove it all PLUS I had to scrub so hard my lips were sore. This is the worst makeup failure I’ve had in YEARS! This stuff tastes horrible, it looks weird, it feels really gross AND it doesn’t come off easily…But it lasts all day=SO WHAT! I’ll just buy regular lipstick and reapply it. This stuff is way too annoying to be worth it!!!!
LMAO!! yea, i know exactly how you feel. it’s not a great product at all. if you don’t use a super thick gloss to inject 90cc’s of moisture then its just..no good! but i dont wanna have to pack on gobs of gloss just to make a product work u know?
I actually sorta like this product. It literally stays on forever. I have it in platinum rose, but its easy for me to remove with a little makeup remover. Yes it is a little drying but, for me it is tolerable, even without gloss, though it looks prettier that way.
Just my thoughts
I love your blog and utube
