Let’s take a trip to Bougieville, population YOU! This post is for all of my ladies/gents out there who like to occasionally splurge on a product for any given reason. Sometimes I like to spoil myself and buy something fabulous, so I recently picked up Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pure Shine Sheer Lipstick in #22 Cherry Sorbet ($30 – 0.12 oz), and it’s completely different from any lipstick I’ve ever ran across my lips.

It comes in a beautiful gold casing and you push the top down to release the lipstick tube. It kinda smells like cherries or something, I can’t really put my finger on it. It’s pretty flavorless, which is also good (you won’t eat it off). As for the formula, its very sheer and smooth. It almost feels like you’re not applying anything because it glides on so well. Cherry Sorbet has really tiny bits of pink and purple glitter, but I can barely feel it on my lips (which is a great thing). I find it to be somewhat of a hydrating “wet” feeling when applied — but not that “wet” feeling that instantly dries. Although it’s a “sheer lipstick”, this particular color has very good payoff — I was surprised. There’s also an SPF of 15 in this baby :D *poplocks*

With just one complete back-and-forth swipe on each lip, I achieved this much coverage:

*pardon the greasy face…I had a long hot day :|

PROS

  • Beautiful packaging with an expensive feel.
  • Hydrating! Not drying at all :)
  • Glides on very smoothly and has great shine.
  • Cherry Sorbet has great color payoff despite being a “sheer” lipstick.

CONS

  • Expensive
  • Because of the sheer formula, it’s not gonna last very long on your lips — maybe 2-3 hours tops (and that’s totally without eating, kissing, or making fishy faces on glass windows). If you have a problem reapplying your lipstick after a few hours, skip these.
  • If you’re one of those people who are constantly rubbing their lips together, the shine will leave pretty quickly. I did it on purpose to test it out, and the shine kinda dims after an hour of lip rubbing.
  • This particular color has super tiny glitter particles, and you can barely feel them, but it’s still a factor. To be honest, this doesn’t really bother me because I’ve felt waaaay worse, but it may bother you — therefore, it’s a con.

OVERALL

Yea, they’re pricey…but I’m eager to try a few more shades from YSL in this formula. I have a few other YSL lipsticks and I love them all, but this one is different. I’d definitely buy again, but I’m in no rush. These lipsticks are not must-haves by any means. They’re more of a luxury/nice-to-have item. You can skip these if you’re on a budget, and splurge on these if you aren’t. If you’re into sheer shades, these are great for the office or church.
